Hi, back with another art journal page.

Today I have used the Kind Heart Stamp for the focal point of my page.

I first stamped this, then sprayed over a light cover of water.  

Colour Artist Ink in Calypso, Lime, Mermaid and Citrus, and Bubblegum Colour Spray has been dropped into the water.  I let this pool for a bit and then mopped up the excess with paper towel.

After heat drying I went around the outline of the stamp with a black pen and added white to some of the gaps in the stamp.

A mask has been made with some paper towel to allow some stamping with the text from the Memories Stamp Set.  I filled in any missed gaps with some messy writing.

The title is from a Scrap FX rice paper sheet.

Hello Lovelies,

Today I am playing in my art journal, and using a mixture of stencils to create a unique focal image. 

Starting with Colour Sprays, I have created my background, using them with a paint brush to give me a water coloured background. I've added layers of colour to give me a vibrant background. 

Using my stencils, I have added texture to my background, and then also made my focal point., 
I have used to separate quote stencils combined, to make a unique quote. 

I really love how this page turned out. To see it come together, check out the process video.

'Be Free' with Lisa Amiet

Hello all!

It's Lisa here on the blog today,

to share some crafty inspiration with you all.

Here is my layout,

'Be Free'

For this one, I have started with a white cardstock base.

I have used some of my Colour Sprays,

in 'Bubblegum', 'Roadbase' and 'Saffron',

to splash my page, in a circular pattern.

I have fussy cut the flowers from 'Heart - Cut & Colour' page from the 

Love & Grace collection. I have used my Colour Sprays to paint them.

I have used 'Saffron' as the base colour for my flowers, 

and I have added some highlights with the 'Bubblegum'.

For the leaves I have mixed 'Saffron' and 'Lagoon' to make the green. 

I then adhered them to opposite corners. 

I have fussy cut the floral frame,

from the 'Annie' 12 x 12 paper, 

and have adhered it to the centre of my page, 

overlapping the flowers.

I have then used the daisy square from the 'Lucas' 12 x 12 paper,

adhered as a diamond rather than a square.

I have then adhered my photo to the centre of the diamond.

I have also used the 'Sweet Floral' Die, to die cut from blue cardstock. 

I have trimmed it up a bit to suit my page.  

I have then adhered sentiments from the 'Love' Word Sheet Paper,

to my page. I have also added a fussy cut bee from the 'Heart' paper.

I really love the boho hippy feel to the page, 

it describes my daughter and her bestie perfectly.

Hello Lovelies!!!!

Chrissi back with a new 12x12 layout using an awesome stencil designed by the lovely Michelle Grant and the awesome Colour Blast Colour Pastes. 

Using a pic of my niece and I, I've decided to let my girlie side out to play-with a house full of boys, its nice to do a girlie layout now and then, but of course, I ALWAYS have to have my mixed media in there.

I started with my background. I applied my Colour Blast Colour Spray in Bubblegum to some plastic and smooshed it onto my backround to start with. Realising I wanted a much more deeper colour, I then sprayed puddles of Colour Spray straight onto the paper, then dried it with my heat gun- I'm not a paitent artist.

Now it was time to play with my Michelle Grant Flight of Fancy Butterfly Stencil. I wanted this butterfly to be the main focus of my background. To do this, I used it twice side by side, to make a larger, full winged butterfly. It was really easy to achieve this. I applied my Colour Blast Colour Paste in Just Blue, through the stencil, then dried it. Then I flipped the stencil over, lined it up with the already stenciled image, masked off the areas I didn't want my paste to go, with washi tape, and applied the paste again. I just love how it worked out.

So then to cover up my smudging in the middle of my image, I decided to add some more Colour Blast Colour Spray in Bubblegum and Indigo to the middle of my butterfly. This worked for 2 things; it covered up my terrible stenciling lol, and also gave my butterfly some depth and colour variation. I have to admit, it was a great fix.

Now it was time to start putting my layout together. I decided to use some cheese cloth to mat my photo, but I wanted to colour it. So I used some more Indigo Colour Blast Colour Spray to dye it and add some more purple to my layout.

And this is where my layout stayed for about a month. I wasn't overly thrilled with it at the time, and I just couldn't figure out where I wanted to go with it.

I finally got the layout out again and decided to start working on it again. Whilst looking at it, I decided the background was too flat, so I wanted to add some more colour to it. I got out my new Violet Colour Blast Colour Spray and painted on the colour with a paint brush. I made sure to apply a light spray of water to my page first so the colour would blend and flow into the pink.

I was starting to feel happy with the layout after this, but I wanted to add something more to the background. So I got out a solid butterfly stencil I had and used some of my Rose Petal and Just Blue Colour Blast Colour Paste to add these to random areason my background. I love how this little detail really made the layout pop.

After adding a title using some thicker words, I called it done. I really wanted that big butterfly the be the main focal point of the page, and didn't want to over embellish and take away from that. I just really love how that butterfly turned out lol. 

"Art Is......" Journal Page- Chrissi Mannix

Chrissi back today, to share an Art Journal page with you.

 I probably art journal more than anything else. It is my favourite creative outlet. I love experimenting in my journal. Whenever I get new mediums, the first thing I will do is open my journal and just play. I like to see how the mediums and colours work together, and most of the time, I end up with a page I really like.

Today, I really want to experiment with my Gel Plate, and Colour Sprays!!! I've used paint before, many times, but never colour sprays and I was very curious how it would turn out, and I have to say, I love it!

I started out by playing with, what would be my focal image- I HAVE to have a focal image on my pages, its a me thing lol. I used Colour Sprays in the colour's Saffron and Carribean- (which I'm almost out of, its totally my fave). I sprayed these liberally over my gel plate.  

Then I just got some good old copy paper and pulled up the ink. I replaced the paper in different sections of the gel plate, and reapplied more colour spray when I wanted more colour. I continued doing this until I was happy with the coverage. 

When I was happy, I then dried the page off with my heat gun. I wanted to add some interest to the paper, so I grabbed a collection of background stamps, and randomly stamped these over my page. 

I drew out my shape and then cut it out. Simple.
So using my mixed media supplies I made my own personalised paper, and focal image. Now to move on to my page.

While I had my Gel Plate out, I decided to use it to make my backround aswell. I did the same thing, using a different colour palette. I applied Saffron, Sunset and a small amount of Bubblegum Colour Sprays.

I applied the Gel Plate directly to my journal. Again, I reapplied the colour and gel plate untill I was happy with the coverage.

So this is what I like to call the Hot Mess stage of an Art Journal page. This is the point where it looks like a hot mess, and I would probably not be very happy. BUT, I have learnt too work past this stage. Very important, and remember that it is just a background.

Now this is where things start to come together. I start adding my layers. I'm using some Black Heavy Gesso to add some stenciling, and some splatters around my page. I also use a makeup sponge to randomly go around my page.

Now its starting to look a bit better, and I'm much happier. Now to add my focal image. 

Before I added my heart, I wanted to give it a mat of some kind. So I decided to use one of my favorite textures- cheesecloth. I dyed it by spraying it with Road base colour spray. 

To finish off my page, I layered the cheesecloth and my heart, using gel medium to adhere. I then added staples, once it was all dry, just to add some grunge.  I went with a contrasting colour to really make this pop. I then outlined it using a water reactive pencil and bled the lines with some water. And that's my art journal page. I hope you enjoyed my play with gel plates and colour inks, I sure did. I love finding new ways to use my tools, other then the way they were originally intended.

"Foo Fighters" by Rachel Dutko

 Hi guys

Today I have a page following along from Fiona's page 

from a few weeks ago. My page is a photo of my sister and I 
at the concert (sorry Fi!!).

To start my page I sprayed some Bubblegum Colour Spray onto 
heavy weight cardstock, then added some splatters.

Next I took a small paintbrush and painted on some stripes with Black Heavy Gesso.

I also added some splatters of Blush Colour Shimmer Cube and Road Base Colour Spray.

I coloured some muslin by dipping it in some water-activated  
Lollipop Colour Shimmer Dust.

I allowed it a few days to make sure it was completely dry before adding it to my page.

 

I've added lots of embellishments from some awesome Aussie companies - 
D'Lish Scraps, Flutterby Designs and Corbett Creations.

"What's your story?" by Mal

Hi all, 

Mal here with a share this week of a page with no photo...yes no photo.

I did this page and have deliberately not used a photo...bit weird hey but I like it.

I started with a swipe of Slipper  Colour Artist Ink...I actually used a bit of hessian dipped in the ink and then swiped across the page. I really like the ink look on the page and the intensity of the colour.

Then I smeared some Colour Paste in Sunshine. 

 

I wanted to add some depth and dimension to my page so I took some gauze and stuck it to me page with some more smears of the Sunshine Colour Paste.

Whilst this was drying I sprayed my raw wood veneer frame with Bubblegum  Colour Spray.

And I inked and sprayed my chipboard title first with Cider  Colour Artist Ink but the colour got lost in the chipboard.

So I then inked it with Oasis  Colour Artist Ink, but it looked green rather than blue.

So I sprayed over it with Carribean  Colour Spray and finally go the colour I wanted.

After I placed all my embellishments I splattered a few drops of Soot Colour Artist Ink

And that's it...What do you think?
