Keep Going by Ros Aggett-Madley

Hello everyone.  Today's page just happened.  No plans, no pre conceived ideas, just creative fun.

My focal point, the face was stamped onto a piece of card that was used to mop up some Calypso Colour Artist Ink.  A little colour on her lips and some stitching finished this part off.

The background started with some torn pieces of Scrap FX rice paper and some Calypso ink and Bubblegum Colour Spray  I added this to the outer edges and dragged it into the centre of the page.

I have then used some Deep Water Colour Paste with the Footprints Stencil.  When it was dry I popped a little crackle paste over the top.

The title 'Keep Going'  was done with some Heavy Black Gesso and the Keep Going Stencil.  All finished off with a few splashes of watered down black gesso.

Hi Everyone! 

I am sharing this page today for Bee Arty to showcase some of the fantastic products in store. 

I set out to design a masculine page with a photo of my eldest, Josh, when he attained his Learner's Permit.

I started with the 'Graffiti Grunge' range of papers and a sheet of white cardstock. I added some layers of other media over the layered papers - adhered together.

I splattered 'Road Base' and 'Rainforest' Colour Spray over the white cardstock alongside my doodling around the border. I have also stamped in various places using the 'Life is Tough' clear stamp set.

Before I adhered my photo down I used a strip of corrugated paper from my stash. I love using the corrugated cardboard as it adds a delightful texture to the page.

I applied some of the 'Steel' Colour Blast Colour Paste over the top of some 'Black' Heavy Gesso.

After I heat-dried the gorgeous 'Steel' paste, I applied some if the Shimmer pen, in 'Pewter', as pictured.

The combo of the black, steel and pewter provided a rustic look that compliments the papers well.

Finally, for my title, I used a quote from the 'Graffiti Grunge' range. I love how this page came together.

Think outside the 'stencil' by Ros Aggett-Madley

Hi everyone.

It's so nice to be back after a little break in the Kit Club.

This month I'm sharing some projects using stencils.  I'm going to be trying to 'think outside the square' and find different ways to use them.

Can you remember when we first started going crazy for stencils.?  I use to need them all and they would be slapped on the page, making sure the whole thing was added.  12 x 12 or whatever size, not a bit left out.

Now there are so many different patterns and quotes, it can sometimes be instinctive to think it all has to be used.  For these 2 projects I've tried to look at them not as a whole, but as pieces that can build layers and provide different elements in my projects.

For my little journal page I started with one of my favourite ways to add a quick background.

I have mixed a little water and a small amount of Citrus Colour Artist Ink.

I simply tip this into the middle of a page and use the little tub to move it around.  Once my blob of colour is just how I want it, I use the cup as a stamp and add a few circles around the page.

After I dried this off I have added some molding paste through a couple of stencils.  For this background I chose to use the Keep Going and the 100% stencil.

Both of these stencils have quotes and words and nothing that matched what I actually wanted on the page.  What they do offer me though is a variety letters and different text.

Without thinking about what is written on the stencils, it's easy to get an interesting and textured background.  You don't have to keep them the right way up either.

Turn them around and have your letters going any way you choose, adding interest to your page.

I've then used the Live Life stencil and some Sunshine Colour Paste to add a few bees to some black card.

I thought that by adding it straight to the black card, there was no colouring needed. I made 3 bees and once dry, these have been fussy cut and glued on top of each other for dimension.

I also used the Live Life stencil on my background with some orange ink and a sponge.  Again, I have just popped random pieces of the text around my page.  All these layers that are added to your background give your piece, colour, dimension and adds interest.

In a couple of the corners I have added parts of the arrow on the 100% stencil and one of my favourite Scrap FX stamps.

Again, not using the whole piece of the arrow, it's not needed.  Just a little point from both sides of the page, drawing your eye into the middle.

My little layered up bee looks like a little 3d bee on my page.  💙

My next sample of 'thinking outside the box' with your stencils, got me a little gift card to add to my stash.

 Sometimes when you have a stencil with a lot of elements on it, it helps to section each piece off with your hands or some card and look at each part separately.

I did this with the Up Up & Away stencil and it became easy to then see that the basket from the bottom of a hot air balloon could be used as a base for so many things.

I've chosen to use it as a flower basket, but you could add anything.  Lollies, toys, hearts, fruit and breads are a few of the things I thought of.

This one stared with a little wash of Calypso and Marine Colour Artist Inks.  I have just used a wide, wet paintbrush to add this colour and heat dried.

Using a black sharpie and the basket in the Up Up & Away, I have drawn the basket onto this.

It seemed a little flat with the colour of the basket being the same as my background.  To solve this, I have used a small brush to pool water inside the basket and dabbed it up with some paper towel.  This removed some of the colour and lightened it up heaps.

The flowers and leaves are from the Flower Pennants stencil.  The flowers were sectioned off with some tape and added to some white card with Just Blue Colour Paste.  I've then carefully added the leaves with Apple of my Eye Colour Paste.  Once dried these were fussy cut and coloured with some Lime Colour Artist Ink for the leaves, and a mix of Bordeaux and Calypso for the petals.

The sentiment on the bottom of my card is from the Kind Heart Stamp Set.

I hope you've been inspired to look at stencils a little bit differently and think about how just because they say something, doesn't mean it has to be relevant to your project.  Use them to add interest to your creations, whether that be dimension or colour.

Hi friends, here's a new inspiration for you using Colour Blast Australia products. This photo was taken At Scenic World - Katoomba. We took all the boys on an adventure. Shortly after this it poured and we all got soaked!!

 Here are some closer looks...

 To create this layout I have a process by where I create my focal point first. For this one I found some papers and created a matt.

 I found some Fab Dusty Attic Chipboard from my new Design Team kit and added some crackle paste. While it was still wet I added Colour Artist Ink in Walnut to colour the paste, not to sit on top of it. I then added a touch of Art Alchemy wax to highlight the crackle.

 Using Colour Paste in Leather I used a stencil to create some embellishments. I deliberately over heated the paste to get a lovely texture on the moths. I also added some Colour Embossing Powder in Stormy Sky to the title. When I layed it out I decided that it was too dark and them put a layer of Sunshine on instead. The black base gave the Colour Embossing Powder a complete golden shimmer.

 Once I was comfortable with where my embellishments and focal point were going to go I marked out in pencil and removed them to work on my background. For this process I coloured some Colour Blast Heavy Gesso White with Colour Artist Ink, Barley and used my pallet knife to apply. Once I had enough I added Colour Artist Ink in Lime to the remaining mixture to vary the shade and add a another layer. Once this was dry I added some splatters with Colour Artist Ink - Walnut... Why not - It was still sitting there.

 At that point I realised I had a Grungy effect to the layout now and then added some stamping with Archival Ink to add to that feel. I stuck down the Picture and embellishments and then used my Colour Shimmer Brush Marker to add a bit of sparkle to my flowers.

Hey all, Time for a bit of a teen layout...

I wanted to make something quick and easy, up-cycling some random pieces from my stash. I set myself an hour for this task and was so pleased with the result.. Can you find an hour too?

I kept the colours simple as I wanted a grungy effect. I only had half a heart I fussy cut from an old piece of paper so the layout formed around that. 

I marked out where the embellishments were going to be and started spraying with my Colour Spray in Road Base... I knew I wanted drippage so I worked with a water mister as well to get the spray to flow.

I didn't have any red spray on hand (put that on the shopping list) so I made up a spray with my Colour Artist Ink in Sunburst. I only used three drops in an teaspoon of water as I didn't want the colour to dilute too much.

I added some stamping to the background

I added some Colour Paste in Stormy Weather to add some texture to the stamped areas. Waited for that to dry... 

I used some Colour Embossing Powder in  Dusty Charcoal... Watered down some Colour Blast Heavy Gesso White and splattered the background... 

And reassembled my page!

This one was actually my first Project using the products from Colour Blast. I received my kit from Tenisha and dived straight into using the Colour Artist Inks... I put it into "Save for later" as that month Ros and Michelle also did amazing layouts using the same colours. First world problems.. I know right!!

My turn now to showcase my sunset.. I snapped this pic on my phone when I got out of my car from my driveway last summer and I love it. It truly shows what the sunsets in Western Sydney are like.. Hotter than hell in summer and spectacular reward at the end of the day!

Have a look at some close ups and I will run through how I achieved the effect at the end. 

  

I started by pooling Colour Artist Inks onto my page. I started with the lightest colours first, Barley, Cider and Rust. Then building up to Sunburnt and Bordeaux. I didn't prime my page. I used a semi gloss cardstock so it wasn't particularly porous as I found that the colours were more vibrant without gesso. I did this in several layers drying some areas with a heat tool to seal in the colours and left other areas wet too add more colour to blend. 

 Once dry I used Colour Artist Ink in Soot to splatter my page. 

I wasn't really satisfied with the soot on its own - too dark as I was hoping to use black embellishments to replicate the silhouette in the photo. I added some Colour Mica Powder in Olive to Gel Medium and watered it down just a touch to add some golden splatters to the background also.

 To finish off the background I added some Colour Paste in Tangerine and used a marbled stamp to add some definition to the background. I had a contrast of shimmery oranges and golds with some flat blacks.. 

 To finish off my page I created my own embellishment by colouring some watercolour paper with the same Colour Artist Inks I used for the background. 

I used the same techniques to create the clocks. I stamped the image onto cardstock I had coloured and fussy cut. 

 I used Colour Blast Heavy Gesso Black to colour some chipboard and the Colour Mica Powder in Olive to add sparkle. I love this colour when used on black as the shimmer pigment becomes the colour base.  

Lastly I also Colour Blast Black Heavy Gesso to prime my title and applied Colour Embossing powder in Sunshine.. Love the way the Embossing powder is golden on black gesso.
