For this page I used a burlap page from the Dina Wakely blue journal however, this process could just as easily be incorporated into a scrapbook page layout, white cardstock or journal book.

 

Using a palette knife scrap a generous amount of Gesso – Bee Arty heavy primer 250ml (white) over the page.  If using burlap or similar protect the under page with some paper towel as the gesso may seep through.   Dry off.

 

 

 

Apply some Colour paste – fire engine through the Garden Poem stencil top and bottom of the page.  Allow to dry.

 

 

Spray or brush some lighter green paint over the gessoed page.  Dry off.

 

 

 

Mix some Colour artist inks – grass in with the Colour paste – apple of my eye then apply through the Embrace Change wreath stencil.  Allow to dry.

 

 

Mix in some Colour artist inks – barley into the Colour paste – apple of my eye to create a brighter yellow colour then using a small wooden stick (or similar) to add some colour to the ‘buds’ surrounding the wreath.

 

 

Add black spatters over the page using black paint or ink.

 

 

 

Fussy Cut several butterflies (both coloured and black/white images) from the cut-out paper from the Embrace Change collection, as well as a sentiment card from the paper card. 

Adhere some muslin fabric, with matt medium, over part of the wreath where the sentiment card will be placed. Place and adhere the butterflies randomly around the wreath and sentiment card. 

Please note,  I added some 3D ephemera butterflies from my personal stash also.

BEYOND THE GATE! by Linda Pearson

Hi all back again with a journal page using the gorgeous paper collection by the talented Sue Smyth.  

I hope you're inspired by this process and create your own spread and I would love to see your interpretations uploaded on to the Bee Creative Facebook page.

• White Cardstock 350gsm 10 pack - 12"x12" - off cut

• Party Lights – A4 stencil Grateful Heart designed by Michelle Grant Designs

• Time Magic A4 stencil designed by Michelle Grant for the Limited Edition range

• gesso – Bee Arty heavy primer 250ml (white and black)

• Colour artist inks -Soot

• Colour paste – colour blast - singing the blues

• Acrylic paint – payne’s grey, pyrole red and deep green, mid-blue

• White Posca pen

• Heavy matte gel medium

• Texture paste

• Black Archival Ink Pad, blender

• Tombow mono multi liquid glue

I was inspired to create a double spread page in my art journal, first I adhered the -   Bay at the Moon

paper.  In my A3 journal there is a 10cm space on the left hand side when the page is glued in.  

Using some Payne's Grey acrylic paint and gesso – Bee Arty heavy primer 250ml (white/black), apply a blended mix of the paint colours using a silcone (makeup) wedge lightly over the blank area of the journal page, carry over the dabbing of colour over some spots of the printed paper.   Dry off.  Then apply some mid-blue acrylic paint in targeted areas near the gate and left hand side of page.

(PLEASE NOTE:  Scrapbookers may choose to work on the printed paper to add a photo later in the process)

Add some drips over the page using watered down Colour artist inks  - Soot.  Dry off.

The next step is to add more 'mood' to the scene using stencils to add some imposing tree branches and foliage.  The Party Lights – A4 stencil Grateful Heart collection designed by Michelle Grant Designs is used with black gesso – Bee Arty heavy primer 250ml applied palette knife.  Add branches on both sides of the page.  Dry off.  

Before adding the stenciled foliage, make some marks over the page using the silicone (make up) wedge with left over grey paint randomly and lightly through the Rhythm-A5 stencil, from the Follow your dreams collection designed by Michelle Grant Designs

Mix up small quantities of green hues, dark, medium and light.  Starting with the darker green apply paint through the leaves section Party Lights – A4 stencil Grateful Heart collection designed by Michelle Grant Designs.  I chose to add lots and lots of leaves in the three shades of green. Add the dark green, dry off then add mid green shade, dry off.  Finally with the lightest shade of green and white add another layer of leaves to add depth to the foliage.

Below the left hand side shows the dark and mid green leaves, with the right hand image showing the lighter hues of green and white.

     

Dry off the foliage layer thoroughly.  Fussy-cut some butterflies, rose images from the -    Cover sheet with cut apart images.  Also cut a focus image from the Gothic Favours - the scull image was chosen for this page.  Adhere the image to the bottom of the page.

To anchor the scull image to the page add textured black paste (black gesso added to texture paste). 

Use the Time Magic A4 stencil from by Michelle Grant Designs for anchoring the image to the page    

The stencil is masked to enable small sections of chain to be applied as a frame around the scull image.  Dry off thoroughly.  Once dry, apply the stencil over the chain frame again, this time dabbing some Colour paste – singing the blues colour, to add shimmer to the stencil.  Dry off.

              

Using the Time Magic A4 stencil from by Michelle Grant Designs again, apply the cog border along the bottom edge of the using the black gesso/texture paste mix as before.  Dry off completely.  Once dry, apply the stencil over the border again, this time dabbing some Colour paste – singing the blues colour to add shimmer to the stencil.  Dry off.

     

   

Detailing - outline the butterflies with white posca pen.  Along the bottom of the butterfly shapes with posca pen then smudge with wet pen paint with finger to create a trail from the butterflies.

        

Add headings to the page - firstly, paint up an off-cut of paper with Pyrole Red paint.  Fussy cut the words 'Dark' and 'Castle' from the Cover sheet with cut apart images sheet, then cut out the words 'beware' and 'beautiful' from the Gothic Favours sheet, distress the edges with black archival ink. 

Glue all the words to the red offcut card, then cut around the words leaving a red background edge around the words.  Again distress all the edges of the words with black archival ink.

            

Adhere the words to the page.  Dark Castle above the scull image and place the Beware Beautiful words over the gate.  

After creating this journal page with lot of mood and intrigue .... ask yourself ...

 Hi everyone,  This is my first time posting as a creative team member.  

I have created an art journal page with lots of layers and fussy cutting using a variety of Bee Arty products.  Enjoy! 😉

The following image highlights the Bee Arty products used.

General materials List:

journal book or scrap book page, gesso, paint colours; blue (background), magenta/white, leaf green, payne's grey/white, wet wipes, paper towel, brushes and palette knife, paint wedge or credit card, blending tool or foam sponge, foil card (white and light green) and adhesive.

Bee Arty products:

White Heavy Gesso

White cardstock  12" x 12" 350gsm x 1 sheet

My Lady – A4  Stencil Forever my always range

Within 12" x 12" scrapbooking paper  or choose an alternative sentiment for page

Surface preparation:

Apply a layer of White Heavy Gesso over page, dry off.

Apply light blue background colour over the page, dry off.

Using the *distressed wings (or alternative) stencil rub White Heavy Gesso through the stencil using a blending tool or foam sponge.

Using the same *distressed stencil (or alternative) stencil apply Colourblast Paste - singing the blues through the stencil randomly over the page, allow to dry.

        

Mix a touch of white paint into payne's grey to lighten a little, then using the artist's wedge (or credit card) dipped in paint add random broken lines over the surface and border also, dry off.

   

        

Using a blending tool and black archival ink rub the ink with blending tool through the stencil onto the White cardstock.  Please note: only use the floral sprays (tape off the lady's face with masking tape) in the print.  Try to fit 2 onto the one sheet of White cardstock.

        

Painting the flowers; use 2 shades of leaf green paint to loosely fill in leaves.  

Please note: I painted up 2 coloured sprays of flowers and left one spray of flowers with no colour.  

Paint the flower petals in 2 shades of light magenta as base colour.  Allow to dry.

With a brush load up some Colourblast Paste in Envy add thick texture to the leaves with the paste.  Repeat for the flower petals using Colourblast Paste in Rose Petal, apply loosely and thickly over parts of the petals allowing some of the background colour to show through.  Allow to dry.

Fussy cut the sprays of flowers as closely as you can (I chose to leave a tiny white outline around the shapes so I didn't have to highlight the shapes later on).  

                                                 

Cut shapes using the die cuts String Wreath – Metal Die from the foil card (2 from each colour).

Using off cut from centre of wreath die cut out the Bird Talk Metal Die (you may not use all the diecut shapes, depends on the size of your page.

For this page I cut some of the words from the Within scrapbook page ... but you may choose to use your own sentiment.

Layout all the cut out sprays of flowers, string wreaths, birds and words onto page.  Arrange the layers to your taste.  I cut a couple of the leaves off and did not use one of the coloured sprays and a white string wreath.  Again it depends on the size of your page to determine how much you use.

When you're happy with layout, adhere all the elements onto the background page.

Finally,  apply a little Dorland’s wax medium over the areas with Colourblast Paste this help to protect your artwork from sticking to other pages.

The Journey by Ros Aggett-Madley

Hello and welcome 💙

Today I'm sharing a project that is now sitting next to my bed.  I had a little 8x8 frame which was perfect for this project.

For the bottom plaque I first added a coat of Heavy Black Gesso.  After I let this sit for a minute, I used a baby wipe to remove the excess from the top and sat it aside to dry.  I then added a little Heavy White Gesso to this.  The reason I added the black first was to darken the quote and allow it to stand out more.

I took a little wooden heart and coloured it with water and Peacock Shimmer Dust.  I did a really concentrated layer and heat dried it.  This gave that really dark shade and I used a baby wipe to remove a lot of the colour.  This has given the heart a nice rustic type look.

I have used Bling Embossing Powder to colour some wings which have been made with paper clay.  To colour the little balls I put in the bottle, I used a little dry Shimmer Dust.

The metal key and birdcage have been coloured with Heavy White Gesso.  All these have been layered up with a few stars and balls and lots of matte gel.
