Welcome Back Colour Blasters

For my share today I created a Dream Catcher canvas wall hanging.   I love having some of my creations hanging on my craftroom walls and since  need to use up my stash (to make room for more) I went for this canvas as my project base.

To start my project, using some plain white tissue paper and a really good gel medium I attached the tissue to the canvas base.

  

Once dry I did several coats of Heavy White Gesso to seal it and give it a great working surface.

I then chose an array of Colour Shimmer Sprays including Sunshine, Tangereen Dream, Apple of My Eye, Deep Water, Lovely Lilac and Envy and went crazy. As much as I liked the background there was too much colour and a little too much shimmer.  

To fix this I went back over the top of the colour with the Heavy White Gesso again so soften the background and I was happy with the end result. I forgot to take a second photo after the second coat.

 Next I got to add my favourite Colour Shimmer Dust in Lollipop and really hit with the water spray so that the colour got in to all the creases of the tissue paper.

I then worked on my embellishments.  I love the Celebr8 chipboard and adore the feather piece.  I firstly gave it a coating of Heavy White Gesso and then with a sponge and Colour Artist Ink in Slipper. I allowed each coating to dry but I just couldn't get the colour I wanted.... maybe I was too impatient to build it up.

So I quickened up the process and added some of the Colour Artist Ink in Slipper to some Heavy White Gesso and mixed it up in my pallet.  I made sure when I mixed it that it had a marbled effect so hopefully it would transfer like an ombre effect when it dried. 

I then mixed my Colour Artist Inks in Oasis and Mermaid together to make a more jade colour and then painted it on to some feather I made using a silicone mold.  They came up a great.

 Using the Colour Embossing Powder in Deep Water and Rose Petal and embossed a wood veneer wreath with a marbled effect. I then used the Deep Water Colour Embossing Powder again and heat embossed my title.

Using an array of Little Birdie Crafts flowers, a bit of bling and all the other embellishments that I altered using Colour Blast products I completed the canvas.

‘Dream Catcher Tags’ by Amy C

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to make mixed media tags.

This demonstrates the use of several techniques. I love the transformation from plain white paper to an amazing piece of art!

First, as this project uses a lot of water and spray liquid, it is ideal to use either watercolour cardstock or to use a heavy-duty piece.

Using a spray bottle, I sprayed the paper with water completely. Using Rainforest, Sunset, Violet, and Sapphire Colour Sprays, I sprayed randomly around the page and then set aside to dry.

After it dried, I sprinkled water around the page to create a water droplet look – love it!

Once all dried again, I trimmed down to tag size. If you have a ‘tag-shaped’ die… go for it!

Using background stamps of my choice, and a permanent ink, I stamped over the tags to my liking.

To tone the background down a bit, I rubbed 'White Heavy Gesso' lightly over the surface, using a baby wipe.

To create the circle for the dream catchers, I used a large stitched circle stamp from my stash. If you don’t have one you can simply trace a circle using a craft marker.

I stamped some feathers onto the catcher, and around the page.

Next, using Stormy Weather  Colour Paste and a star stencil from D-Lish Scraps, I applied the paste over the tags.

To create a border, I ran the stalk of the Roadbase  Colour Spray loosely around the border. Before it dried, I sprayed it with water and left it to drain in the vertical position, as pictured.

Once I was happy with the effect, I dried it with a heat gun.

The tag was looking a bit dark at this point, so I added some white splatters. This also served to create a ‘starry night sky’ effect.

The combination of water and 'White Heavy Gesso', mixed on a stampers block, worked well to achieve this splattered look.

Finally, it was time to embellish – and complete the tags – with feathers!

This was absolute fun to create!

Childs Play Dream Catcher by Tracey Campbell

Greetings and Salutation everyone. For my post today I wanted to share with you that Colour Blast products are a product that are fantastic and so simple to use ....  easy enough for all the family to use..... if you want to share.  

 Paige my youngest daughter and I worked on this project together using Colour Blast Paste.

We purchased this plastic stain glass feathers kit from K-mart and the paint that was include was completely dry....

 so to avoid the tears I suggested to Paige that she use my very special pastes.

 Together we painted the plastic feathers using Colour Paste in four different colours;

  Envy

Bling 

 Tangeareen Dream

 Rose Petal

Once they were dry it was just a matter of simply threading them up with some string.  

 This dream catcher part didn't come with the kit I had to raid my chipboard stash for this circle which I sprayed with Grape Colour Spray, drew triangles on it and punched a few small holes to thread the string through.  

 Once it was all tied together the string lacked colour, so I grabbed some Colour Shimmer Spray in Tangareen Dream and Envy and sprayed it to give it a bit of colour.

 I really love how the Colour Paste allows the sunshine through and becomes almost translucent.

Boho Dream Catcher by Elisa Ablett

Happy Sunday Crafters!

It's Elisa from the design team again with a little something different today...

A dream catcher kit happened to fall into my trolley at one of my local shops a while back and I decided to save it with my credit card (just doing my bit to save all craft supplies) and I have been saving it until inspiration struck.

Here is my finished 'Sea themed' Dream Catcher featuring some awesome shells that my youngest son collected at our local beach.

Let's have a closer look at how I transformed this kid's Dream Catcher kit !

Here are the pieces of the kit, I kept the paper cut out pieces for another project and just used the bare dream catcher.

First step - Paint or spray gesso over your pieces - front and back

Second step - I mixed an amount of Espresso Mica Powder with Gel Medium (about 1/2tsp mica to 1 1/2 tsp of gel medium) in a paint palette and using a palette knife and fingers smooth the medium over two of the mdf feathers and the frames of the dream catcher (dry each side thoroughly before turning over and completing the other sides) before turning over see Step 3 this step has to be done prior to each side drying.

Step 3 - Using a texture stamp or a piece of rubber matting (repurposed placemat) while your gel medium is wet - press your texture piece into the medium leaving a wonderful pattern in the gel medium. DRY before turning over. see below photo

Next step - mix a smaller amount of the Polar mica powder with Gel Medium  and once mixed spread with your finger over the dry frames of the catcher so the gorgeous teal colour goes into all the grooves of the pattern you made in Step 3. Also using a palette knife and also your finger smooth the rest of the polar mica mixture over the remaining mdf feathers. (same deal here, dry before turning over) 

TIP - use toothpicks through the premade holes on the frames so that you don't fill the holes up with your gel medium mixture. You could also balance your circle frames with toothpicks and work on both sides at once.

Next step - while you are waiting for your frames to dry we will move onto the feathers, grab three white feathers, mix up a very small amount of each of your chosen Colour Shimmer Dusts with water in a paint palette and using a paint brush, add colour to your white feathers. Once dry I also used a Sepia Inkpad to ink the bottom of the feathers and add a touch of the brown to the feathers. Put aside to dry and back to the Frame.

Next step - Spray and splatter your frames with a combination of Colour Shimmer Sprays, I used Just Blue and Envy.

Next step - After your frames are dry, it is now time to thread them with the heavy hessian twine that came with the kit. Tie off the top and then thread through the holes as pictured above in a clockwise direction. Once you have finished the first go around the frame, you then do the same threading in the middle of the first loops that you have made. 

Keep threading around and around (loosely) inside the frame until you reach the middle, then pull the threads tight! this will pull your threads together and then you can tie them off in the middle. I made the decision to tie a few shells in the middle as a feature.

Once I threaded the top frame and attached the bottom circle with twine, I completed the following quick steps.

- Thread blue thread around the first lot of loops on the main frame.

- attach teal and blue coloured thread to your painted feathers, mdf feathers and shells

- distress the coloured twine a little to give them a coarser look

- Glue a couple of shells on the main frame

- Using a sepia inkpad and dauber or your finger brush a little bit of brown ink onto your feathers to colour coordinate them with your frames.

Tie your thread to your pieces first, then tie them onto your frames, you can adjust the length of each drop them a lot easier.
