Tea Bag Art - With Karyn Schultz!

It's Karyn here and today I have some Tea-Bag Art to share with you made using lots of fun new products from the Raspberry Fizz Collection available from Bee Arty.  

  

For many years now, while on retreat, a few lovely friends and I create and share Tea-Bag Art. These are fun projects to share and I love the small canvas to create on. Start by emptying 3 unused teabags of their tea leaves (you could use used tea bags if you prefer). Then paint both sides of the tea bags and tea tags with heavy white gesso (2 coats).

 

 

Paint both sides of the bags and tea tags with Sunshine Mica powder mixed with water.

 

Mix Blush Mica powder with heavy gloss gel then apply to the tea bags and tea tags through the Fizzy Days Stencil from the Raspberry Fizz Collectionn.  

 

Add some stamping using Black Archival ink and the Recipe Script stamp from the Raspberry Fizz collection.  

 

 The base of the tea bags and tea tags is complete. Embellish with some diecuts, fussy cuts and words. The diecuts are created from yellow glitter cardstock and 250gsm White Cardstock and the Speckled Peony Metal die set. The fussy cuts are from the Raspberry Fizz Paper collection pack. The words are from the "Always" Black on White cut apart sheet.

Art is a Way of Life-Off the page Chrissi M

Hello Lovelies

Do I have something different for you today!

I decided to go Off The Page today. Its been a while since I've gone off the page. But I had so much fun making this, I love it.

I started with an old paint palette I had laying around. It was used in the past, so I started by covering it with Heavy Gesso. It only took 2 coast to give me a nice base, ready to add my colour.

I wanted a nice dark blue, and I knew the Artist Ink in Marine would be perfect. I used one of the small misters that came in my Colour Blast Mixed Media Kit, and added some Marine to the mister, then topped up with water and viola- my own Marine colour spray. Then I went to work spraying my palette. I also added some Indigo in the Colour Sprays. I love the colour combo.

I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't take that much ink to get vibrant colours. In the past I have had problems getting spray inks to be vibrant when applied over gesso. Not the case here. I applied my sprays, let them dry- with some help from my heat gun then applied another layer of colour. 

Now it was time to add some texture and interest to my background. I went with Royal Colour Paste and a stencil from my new Oct Colour Blast Kit. I Adore it!! 

To add some more detail, I used the matching stamp from the Oct kit as well, and a circle stamp from a previous kit. 

Now for the focal point of my project. I wanted an artistic quote. I want to use this as a wall hanging in my art room. So I chose

 'Art is a way of life'. I drew the letters for the word Art by hand- I know right!! I cut them out and painted them with Black Heavy Gesso. Then used gel medium to glue it to my palette.

I overlapped my letters a bit to make it look more symmetrical. To define the edges of my letters from each other, I then traced around them with my white stabilo.

I wanted to use this awesome new die I received in my Oct Kit- which you can also purchase from the online store. Its a fabulous distressed butterfly. I cut some out in black cardstock and a dark purple colour too. 

Then it was time for the focal point of my piece. I really wanted to use paintbrushes and an embellishment for my piece. I made a little cluster with the butterfly, some dyed cheesecloth and my brushes. I love how this turned out!

To finish my quote, I used a set of wooden stamps I have. I love the look this gave the quote.

And that's my project. I adore how this turned out, just as I pictured in my head lol. That doesn't happen often, so I was very happy.

"Framed Off the Page Canvas" by Melissa Struhs

This time last year I worked on an off the page canvas that I truly fell in love with but really struggled with how dusty it would get once it was hung on a wall, so it remained wrapped and tucked aside for safe keeping for almost 6 months. 

If you would like a refresh of the full tutorial you can check out Amity here...since then I attached some mini print black and white images of the Colour Blast gang to the canvas as well.

Like most people, that break over Christmas time is a chance to catch up on those bigger projects and with my hubby at home, finally I had the other half of the creative team to help out. There had been some tentative plans for how the canvas would be encased in an enclosed shadow box frame and how it could function and be able to switch on the lights easily.

Firstly, a MDF box frame was built to allow for the height of the embellishments plus the Marquee monogram letters.

To access the battery packs for the lights, the canvas was hinged to the frame so it could flip open and then a small magnetic catch the hold it in place when you wanted to close it.

I had a local business make a custom made silver frame with the glass already in place and this too could be hinged to open as well.

Once all of these elements were screwed into place and functioning as we envisioned, the frame at the front was removed as well as the canvas and the wooden shadow box  this was spray painted silver to match other frames throughout our home. 

After several hours of drying time, it was attached to our lounge room wall and all pieced back together.

So here is how it works...

The lock can be opened on the outer edge of the frame and swung open....

The canvas then swings open too...

to reveal the battery packs and allowing the canvas to still be a light source as well.

Once the lights are on, you can then close it all back over...keeping it dust free as well. We often switch it on for a little ambient light in our lounge room when we curl up for movie nights or when guests are over.

Repurposing Colour shimmer Cube Lids with Selena Stevens

Colour Shimmer Cubes should be stored with the lids off so that they can dry hard.  I didn’t feel comfortable throwing the lids away.  So, I tweaked a friends idea (Thanks Liz! Click here to see her work.) on how to use these left over lids.

So, lets begin ...

Remove the lids from the Colour Shimmer Cubes.

Colour Paste (Bling, Singing The Blues, Tangareen Dream and Rose Petal) was painted around the edges.

I printed out some previous artwork of mine small enough so that when I cut it out it would fit into the middle of the Colour Shimmer Cube lid.

Using Dimensional Magic or something similar, glue the cut out artwork on to the middle of the Colour Shimmer Cube and cover the top of it with the Dimensional Magic for a clear layer. Leave to dry.

Magnets were stuck onto the flat side of the Colour Shimmer Cube with Dimensional Magic.

This will create a magnet from the Colour Shimmer Cube lids.
