Canvas by Ros Aggett-Madley

Hi there, today I'm sharing something a little different for me.
I've made a canvas with lots of Colour Blast goodness.

I started out with a  12 x 24 canvas and some old pieces of patterned paper from my stash.  The paper has been cut in to small, different sized pieces and adhered to the canvas with Matte Medium.

Once dry, I've added a layer of Colour Shimmer Dust Peacock that I've mixed with an acrylic paint base.  Once dry I used a wet wipe to lighten some of this.

My next step was to start painting layers on the canvas.  I have used the same Peacock acrylic mix and a mix of Colour Shimmer Dust Paris  and acrylic solution.  I've also used some white paint.  Using a paint brush and my fingers I layered the paint utill I was happy with it.

Once the canvas was dry, I mixed some Heavy Black Gesso with some Glazing liquid.  This extends the drying time of the gesso.
I've coated a layer of this mix over the whole canvas, left for a few minutes then used lots and lots of baby wipes to wipe this off.

The gesso is then left in the grooves on the canvas from the little bits of paper stuck on at the start.
You can see this in the last photo, sorry it's super blurry.

I've then used a stencil and Black Heavy Gesso to add a light layer of contrast across the canvas.  On top of this I have used some modelling paste through a stencil.  Don't forget to include the sides of your canvas.

I felt like I needed a little more darkness in my piece.  I mixed a some water with Colour Shimmer Dust Peacock and also a little Midnight.  This made a super gorgeous dark teal colour.  I used a brush to make puddles and runs of this down the canvas.

Once all dry I have added some Colour Paste Bling to my canvas.  I used a small amount on the end of a finger to rub this on.

Hope you've been inspired.

Art is a Way of Life-Off the page Chrissi M

Hello Lovelies
Do I have something different for you today!
I decided to go Off The Page today. Its been a while since I've gone off the page. But I had so much fun making this, I love it.
I started with an old paint palette I had laying around. It was used in the past, so I started by covering it with Heavy Gesso. It only took 2 coast to give me a nice base, ready to add my colour.
I wanted a nice dark blue, and I knew the Artist Ink in Marine would be perfect. I used one of the small misters that came in my Colour Blast Mixed Media Kit, and added some Marine to the mister, then topped up with water and viola- my own Marine colour spray. Then I went to work spraying my palette. I also added some Indigo in the Colour Sprays. I love the colour combo.

I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't take that much ink to get vibrant colours. In the past I have had problems getting spray inks to be vibrant when applied over gesso. Not the case here. I applied my sprays, let them dry- with some help from my heat gun then applied another layer of colour.
Now it was time to add some texture and interest to my background. I went with Royal Colour Paste and a stencil from my new Oct Colour Blast Kit. I Adore it!!

To add some more detail, I used the matching stamp from the Oct kit as well, and a circle stamp from a previous kit.
Now for the focal point of my project. I wanted an artistic quote. I want to use this as a wall hanging in my art room. So I chose
'Art is a way of life'. I drew the letters for the word Art by hand- I know right!! I cut them out and painted them with Black Heavy Gesso. Then used gel medium to glue it to my palette.
I overlapped my letters a bit to make it look more symmetrical. To define the edges of my letters from each other, I then traced around them with my white stabilo.
I wanted to use this awesome new die I received in my Oct Kit- which you can also purchase from the online store. Its a fabulous distressed butterfly. I cut some out in black cardstock and a dark purple colour too.
Then it was time for the focal point of my piece. I really wanted to use paintbrushes and an embellishment for my piece. I made a little cluster with the butterfly, some dyed cheesecloth and my brushes. I love how this turned out!
To finish my quote, I used a set of wooden stamps I have. I love the look this gave the quote.
And that's my project. I adore how this turned out, just as I pictured in my head lol. That doesn't happen often, so I was very happy.

I hope you enjoyed my post, and have been inspired to try something new. You might be pleasantly surprised.
Chrissi xxx

Smile, by Ros Madley

Hi everyone, today my share features Colour Paste and hand made embellishments.

My first step was to layer some Colour Paste in Rose Petal and Bling onto a couple of scrap pieces of white card stock.  This was done with an old rewards card.
I then sat these aside and came back to my project a couple of hours later.  Because I was die cutting with it, I wanted to make sure it was totally dry.

I've die cut my title and some flowers from the page with Rose Petal Colour Paste and some roses from the Bling.

When I cut these out I used a piece of quick release die cutting paper between the die and my card with the Colour Paste on it.
This helps to remove it from the die once cut.

I did a little stamping on my page, one lot where my photo stack was going to be and the other, a smaller lot on the opposite side for some balance.

I used some Colour Paste in Rose Petal mixed with a little water to make some splatters on the page.

This helps to tie my 2 clusters together and add a little more visual dimension to the layout.

All the pieces have been assembled with a little glue and some foam for dimension.

The page is now finished and is full of hand made embellishments, making a super inexpensive page from a couple of pots of Colour Paste that can be used again and again.

Hope you've been inspired.

Its the Simple Thing by Danielle Vertigan

This is a phenomenon for me.....
The elusive layout that is clean.....
Simple......
And free of embellishments!
A total anomaly!
Let me tell you the set up, the idea and the thought process started
out on a completely different path.
Even the photo was changed at the 1/2 way point!
(I'll make a note of telling you when it turned)

But all that is the best part of scrapbooking. Its the unknown and the undecided.
It can be whatever you want and adapt to whatever you want...
The products today speak for themselves and when I was completing this one
they drove the design...
My first thing has to layer my white cardstock with chipboard
then using the measurements from a cut down 4x6 photo
I cut down out my window in the desired location.
This can be anywhere.

My next step was to choose my colour. This was driven by my photo choice

Today I've chosen Caribbean Colour Spray

I sprayed it towards my frame line.
I wanted to get the overspray around the edges without covering to much of my page.

I'm really liking the splattered effect that's also happened because of my angle

Dragging the stalk along the frame edge I created a rough pattern.
I dipped the stalk regularly to keep it liberal and get plenty of colour.
In some areas I have allowed drips.

I worked on one side at a time moving the layout to allow excess liquid time to settle.
I only let the drips go quite shallow and you will also notice the liquid will stay within the
perimeter set and only extend further if you really shake it making control much easier.

At this point I'm waiting for it to dry and scanning my phone for another images for another layout.
I started printing and came across a photo I liked
Why not print it....
Hey that blue suits my layout!!!
Lay it under and my layout was made for it!!
With my new image in mind I found the
Bubblegum Colour Spray and flicked around my page using the stalk end.

After I turfed my planned photo, I decided to cut my base down 1.5cm from the top edge and one side edge.
I got a pink sheet of cardstock out and removed 1cm from the top edge and One side edge.
I then got out a black sheet of cardstock.

I layered the white on the pink and using a blade and recut my frame.
I them layered this with foam tape onto my black cardstock.
I freehand my border and added some journaling in a frame.

I layered my photo with Hessian and added it to my layout.

I loved how this stencil resembled track marks and I'm sure you will agree
I needed a touch of yellow
So using Sunshine Colour Paste.

I added the stencilling to my layout focusing on the frame of my photo.

As I moved the stencil around there was some residue left behind
This was a look I quite liked and can be seen in the pic below

There was some final stencilling added to the edge of the layout to balance the overall
look of the piece.

The products really pop on this page.
And I think speak for themselves!
I went back to it multiple times wondering what to do next
But restraint was what was needed here and its just very effective.

Thanks for stopping by
