COLLAGE GIRL CANVAS by Linda Pearson

Hi Bee Arty friends ....  We are now in lockdown again but let's make the time to create some amazing art.

Today I am sharing a canvas I did last year using lots of mixed media products.

Bee Arty Products used in this project:

Other products used:
  • Collage papers - Assorted Gel print papers, coloured photo of myself
  • permanent water colour pencil in dark blue
  • Fiber paste
  • texture paste
  • gel matt medium
  • pink paint
  • plastic bag

Tear the gel print and photo paper into similar width strips.

Glue torn strips of paper to cover the whole canvas.  Cover the page with a coat of white paint or Gesso to a translucent finish.

Mix the Colour paste - Licorice paste with some Shimmer dust –  Duke.  I also added some fiber paste to the mixed to make a heavily textured paste, but this can be omitted if you haven't any.  Apply the mix thickly through the Face Side Profile 2 - A4 Stencil.

Mix a  good quantity of texture paste with black Gesso, add some black paint if the colour isn't dark enough for you.  Spoon the paste into the plastic bag, snip a corner of the bag then pipe the texture paste to form the hair line and strands of hair.
Pipe a lace trim along the bottom edge of the portrait silhouette.

Mix some pink paint with texture paint then apply paste through the Flux A6 stencil stencil around the outer edge of the canvas.  Outline around the edges with permanent water colour pencil (dark blue), then add some water to the pencil outline to blend some shading to the stencil.

Thank you for stopping by and hope you are inspired to have a go at creating a canvas for yourself .... enjoy the Easter break

Heart and Soul by Ros Aggett-Madley

Hi there.  Today I'm sharing a canvas that I created with Bee Arty goodies.

The base of the canvas has been coated with Heavy White Gesso and a few pieces of torn book paper has been added.

I have some flourishes that I made with a mold and some paper clay.  A coat of Heavy Black Gesso has been added to these and once dry a layer of Sienna Colour Paste.

The flourishes have then been adhered to the middle of my canvas and some different sized balls added around these.  To colour these I have used a little water mixed in with some Peacock Shimmer Dust.

It was really hard to capture the beautiful shimmer of the Sienna paste and it's perfect over the black gesso.
I also added some shimmer to the wings with a Clear Shimmer Pen.

The little heart in the middle is a left over from a previous project.  If you'd like to see how this was made click on the photo below.

Hope you've been inspired 💙

Life is Full of Beauty, by Ros Aggett-Madley

Hi everyone,
today I'm sharing a tiny, tiny canvas, tiny like 10 cm tiny.

I started with a coat of White Heavy Gesso.  Once dried I've added a wash or water and Peacock Colour Shimmer Dust.  I wanted quite a pale background, so while it was still wet I have swiped across the surface with a paper towel.

Next I added some stamping with the Geo Grunge stamp set, making sure not to forget to do some of the edges.
To add some texture to my background, I mixed some molding paste with Deep Water Mica Powder.  This has been used with the Scripted Stencil and then randomly spread over the surface with a palette knife.
While the paste was still wet I have sprinkled the top with some distress glitters, fairy dust and micro beads.  I left this overnight to dry.

I made a flower and some leave with paper clay and painted these with Shimmer Dust and water.  I stated with the lightest colour, Peacock, then in some of the grooves added Cobolt.  The Midnight was painted with a fine brush just around the top of the petals.

The leaves were painted the same, a layer of Paris and then some Lush.  While the leaves were still wet, I dropped a little of the Midnight and water mix onto them and this flowed down into the grooves.

Over the black edging i have added some Antique Shimmer Pen with a little Clear Shimmer Pen to the leaves.

Hope you've been inspired 💙

Canvas by Ros Aggett-Madley

Hi there, today I'm sharing something a little different for me.
I've made a canvas with lots of Colour Blast goodness.

I started out with a  12 x 24 canvas and some old pieces of patterned paper from my stash.  The paper has been cut in to small, different sized pieces and adhered to the canvas with Matte Medium.

Once dry, I've added a layer of Colour Shimmer Dust Peacock that I've mixed with an acrylic paint base.  Once dry I used a wet wipe to lighten some of this.

My next step was to start painting layers on the canvas.  I have used the same Peacock acrylic mix and a mix of Colour Shimmer Dust Paris  and acrylic solution.  I've also used some white paint.  Using a paint brush and my fingers I layered the paint utill I was happy with it.

Once the canvas was dry, I mixed some Heavy Black Gesso with some Glazing liquid.  This extends the drying time of the gesso.
I've coated a layer of this mix over the whole canvas, left for a few minutes then used lots and lots of baby wipes to wipe this off.

The gesso is then left in the grooves on the canvas from the little bits of paper stuck on at the start.
You can see this in the last photo, sorry it's super blurry.

I've then used a stencil and Black Heavy Gesso to add a light layer of contrast across the canvas.  On top of this I have used some modelling paste through a stencil.  Don't forget to include the sides of your canvas.

I felt like I needed a little more darkness in my piece.  I mixed a some water with Colour Shimmer Dust Peacock and also a little Midnight.  This made a super gorgeous dark teal colour.  I used a brush to make puddles and runs of this down the canvas.

Once all dry I have added some Colour Paste Bling to my canvas.  I used a small amount on the end of a finger to rub this on.

Hope you've been inspired.

"Beautiful Disaster" Mixed Media Canvas Class - Scrap & Chat Retreat by Sue Plumb

Hi Colour Blast fans!
It's Sue Plumb with something a bit different to share today.
Last month I was lucky enough to attend the annual Scrap & Chat retreat in the Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne with 60 other ladies. If you have never been on a retreat, let me tell you that there is nothing that compares to being around like-minded people for a weekend full of creating. So good for the soul!

While I was there, I was also fortunate to have the opportunity to teach a class to a couple of dozen ladies and I had an absolute (colour) blast! hehe

The piece I taught was a mixed media canvas panel, entitled "Beautiful Disaster" and it was a great opportunity to fly the flag for a number of fabulous Aussie brands including Colour Blast, Cocoa Vanilla Studio and Flutterby Designs.

The canvas was was coloured with my favourite Colour Blast product - Colour Artist Inks, and we used the warm tones of Slipper, Cranberry, Cider and Citrus for the background; then the cool blue colour of Oasis for adding some contrasting highlights.

Besides the Colour Artist Inks, we also used one of my other favourite Colour Blast products - Colour Paste. We used Deep Water for contrast and texture through a Flutterby Designs stencil (although there were a couple of ladies who used Lovely Lilac from my stash because we thought it would work better with the pieces they had created).

We also used both black and white Heavy Gesso on the canvases - using the white to strip back colour and provide the eye a place to rest; and black to add some contrast and tie in with the stencilled image and the Flutterby Designs quote. This was probably the messiest part of the class as I encouraged everyone to test my motto that "fingers make the best brushes" - so fun!

We finished off the canvases with some vellum embellishments from Cocoa Vanilla Studio. The gorgeous colours of the printed vellum die cuts worked beautifully with the tones of the inks and paste.

I so enjoyed the opportunity to fly the flag for Colour Blast and share my love of mixed media with such a lovely group of ladies. Thanks to everyone who attended!

If you would like the opportunity to take a class with one of the Colour Blast design team members at your local store, crop or retreat; please ask the store owner or event organiser to contact Tenisha at Colour Blast to enquire and see if we can come to you.
Until next time, happy scrapping!

Set of 3 Canvas by Charmane Koch

Hello Everyone! It's Charmane here again - this time sharing with you a Set of Canvases I've had in my stash for quite a while!

For me with this canvases I decided I wanted to experiment a little bit with the Artist Inks & Colour Pastes - but keep the colours simple. I used the Stencilgirl Deconstructed Floral Bouquet Stencil by scraping modelling paste over the top of the canvases using a metal spatula. I made sure that I positioned the stencil differently on each of the 3 canvases so that they would not be all the same.

I waited overnight for the paste to dry, as I didn't want to use a heatgun because I didn't want it to bubble up but instead have a smoother surface.

The next step I wanted to make sure all of the canvases were coloured using the Colour Artist Ink watered down - I used Spice, Cranberry & Marine. Using a horsehair brush I coated each canvas.

I love how the Colour Artist Ink has soaked into the Floral pattern of the stencil.

With both of the Orange & Pink Canvases I decided to roughly smear Colour Paste Tangareen Dream  & Lipstick over the top of the Ink & Paste.

I wanted a rough looking effect - scraping thinly and thickly in different parts of the Canvas.

I used a heatgun to dry them out, not too close as I didn't want it to bubble up.

The Blue Canvas I wanted to experiment a little differently using the Clear Shimmer Brush Marker over the top of two of the flowers, and colouring using another paintbrush the other 2 flowers using a less watered down Colour Artist Ink Marine {so that it was a little darker}.

I decided that it still needed more so I have used the Stencil A5 (Medium) Bird by Michelle Grant -

I used a thin layer of White Heavy Gesso. I let this dry overnight. I then used watered down Marine Artist Ink to darken the bird and make it standout.

Unfortunately the photos don't show the shimmer & shine - which does looks amazing!

The plan for these canvases were to hang them on the wall going up the staircase to the kids rooms, but when I set them up they were way too wide apart. I decided they would go at the bottom of the stairs, along with my next WIP {the canvas below the 3 finished canvases} You may see this in another blog post soon!

Thanks for looking & hope you've enjoyed my simple but effective tutorial!
