Greetings and salutations Arty Bees, it is my turn on the blog today and I wanted to try my hand at the monthly Mood Board. I thought that it would be a good challenge as it is certainly not my unusual colour combination that I would put together.

So this is what the May Mood Board looks like; 

The first thing I did was riffle through my Colour Blast by Bee Arty papers to see what I had that would suit. I found some left over pieces of Hope from the Grateful Hearts Collection, Luca from the Love and Grace Collection, Paradise from Life's A Beach and Ideas from the Arty Farty Collection that I thought fitted the colour palette of the Mood Board. Next was looking at the mixed media and choosing Colour Sprays in Sunshine, Tangerine Dream, Punch, Bubblegum and Lagoon. Colour Shimmer Dust in Midnight. Colour Paste in Punch (I didn't end up using the Colour Paste). Citrus in the Artist Inks.

As I only had a few pieces to work with I decided to create my own background to match, so I had a play with the mixed media to see if I could recreate the beach. I started by using Heavy White Gesso to coat a piece of 12x12 cardstock. I knew I would probably layer up a few different mixed media elements so I wanted a good base to work on. Once the Heavy White Gesso was dry I sprinkling some of the Midnight Shimmer Dust across the top of the page. 

Usually I activate the Shimmer Dust with water but as I wanted the dark blue (Peacock) that fades into a lighter shade of the blue (Peacock) I decided to activate it with Lagoon Colour Spray. I actually did this while I had the cardstock on an angle so that the liquid would blend and run down the page.  

Here is how the Midnight Shimmer Dust and the Lagoon Colour Spray turned out. Put aside to dry.

Now for the Blush and Peach Nectar, I didn't quiet have the right colours so I decided to have a bit of a play to mix my own. In a little mister bottle I mixed some Heavy White Gesso with a bit of water to thin it down and then added tiny amounts of Tangerine Dream and Punch Colour Spray together to create a light Blush colour. In another mister bottle I put in a touch of Bubblegum Colour Spray, a drop of Citrus Colour Artist Ink with the watered down Gesso for a Peach Nectar colour. It did take awhile to get the colours right, I just kept adding a tiny amount of colour at a time and spraying onto a scrap of cardstock until I got it right.

I then sprayed the Blush and Peach Nectar colours onto the cardstock with the Peacock blues on it. If I did this again I would do the Blush and Peach Nectar colours first then the Peacock as it kept reactivating when I sprayed it. But I am happy with how it turned out. 

While the background was drying I used the Desire Metal Die to cut out two images from Hope (Grateful Hearts Collection) and six images of vines from the Metal Die set String Leaves using the blue woodgrain pattern from Paradise (Life's A Beach Collection).

I cut the patterned papers into various sized rectangles and layered them to create a large mat for my photo. 

Once happy with the layering I adhered it to the background and added the die cut images around the photo, see the photo below for the positioning. 

Using the Metal Dies 365 Alphas I cut out the main word for my title from some yellow patterned paper. Which I glued on the left hand side of my layout, I did  add a few other letters from some foam Thickers.

I finished off the layout with some peach and peacock paper flowers then doodling and splattering with a white paint pen.

Here is the final layout, it is a bit different than my normal work, but I love how it has turned out and think that it is a good representation of the May Mood Board.

My Favourite Projects, And Farewell by Rachel Dutko

Hi everyone

Well its that time where I need to say farewell to the Colour Blast DT. I've had an absolute 'blast' (or should that be 'Colour Blast'!) over the past 18 months. 

I'd like to take this opportunity to say a very big thank you to Tenisha, Kaye and the team for having me on the team and giving me the opportunity 

to share my love of Colour Blast products.

I'd like to wrap up my last post by reliving some of my 

favourite projects I have created for Colour Blast.

Hi Colour Blasters!

Well it was my birthday a few days ago, so what 

better excuse to share a selfie layout!

I created my layout on black cardstock for the Colour Blast products 

to really shine and shimmer!

For my first background layer I used Colour Shimmer Sprays in Deep Water 

and Singin The Blues through a Stencil Girl stencil.

Once that was dry I added some Punch Colour Paste 

through a script stencil.

The next step was to mix some White Heavy Gesso with some water 

on my messy mat, then add some splatters to my page.

I then coloured some paper flowers and chipboard pieces with Lagoon Colour Spray.

I added my photo, a cluster of embellishments and a die cut title.

Surfs Up by Tracey Campbell

The flexibility of these Colour Blast products is only one of the many reasons why I reach for them each and every layout. For example in this layout I am sharing with you today I have used them in a few different ways and each way is so easy and fun to do.

My first way I want to share with you now is how I used the Colour Shimmer Spray to create a back ground that I wanted to kind of link back to a body of water.... to relate to "Surf" to tie in the photo. I simply shook the bottle of Singin the Blues Colour Shimmer Spray and then poured a few drops straight onto the cardstock.

Using my finger I spread out the blobs across the cardstock until I got the look of water spread across the page.

I did add a bit more Colour Shimmer Spray and kept spreading it until I got the look that I was after.

As I wanted to hurry the process up I used a paper towel to mop up the excess.

While the back ground was drying I hand cut out three shapes that resembled surfboards from cardstock.

The first two surfboards I sprayed with Leather Colour Shimmer Spray and let them dry.

Once dry I spread some Heavy White Gesso through a stencil over one of the Leather Colour Shimmer Sprayed surfboards. Let dry and it is finished.

The second sprayed surfboard I placed some thin strips of washi tape over it and then spread some Just Blue Colour Paste over the top. Let dry.

For the third surfboard I wet the edges of the cardstock with water and then painted them again with some Sapphire Colour Spray. I added the water to the edges to make the Colour Spray bleed across the page. When it was dry it dried a bit lighter than what I wanted so I repeated the process but this time I used Calypso Artist Ink to give a more vivid colour.

Next I loaded a calligraphy pen up with Soot Artist Ink and used the pen to journal on the dried surf board.

The calligraphy pen with the Artist Ink in it is a great way to doodle on your layout to create highlights under titles and interest to the page.

I then simply put it all together to create this simple, fun page.

So such easy ways to use the Colour Blast products but as you can see the simple ways are often the best.

Anzac Day 2017 - by Fiona Hughes

Hi crafters, Fi here again, for the final time, to share my layout.
One of my earliest efforts at using the Colour Mica Powder- Olive, along side Colour Shimmer Sprays - Leather & Stormy Weather.
I have held onto this page to post it at the appropriate time, so here it is, leading up to one of our Nation's most significant days of Remembrance.

I mixed a tiny amount of the Olive Mica powder with water, making a slurry of sorts. Using fully loaded watercolour brush I splattered & smooshed it in a triangular area to the left of my heavy gauge Marshmallow Cardstock. 

I then decanted a small amount of the Shimmer sprays and did the same thing, to make the following effect.

I allowed it to dry before adding a few splatters of Stormy Weather.

I gathered some aged & vintage looking patterned papers, fussy cut some poppies from photographs, a  themed flair button, tag, washi tape & chipboard tiny words. 

Layering & clustering until I was happy with the overall placement, before sticking it all down.

Take a look, and remember our fallen on Anzac Day.
