Scooby Doo Party by Tracey Campbell

Hello Bee Arty Fans and welcome, it is my turn (Tracey Campbell) on the blog today and this time I thought I would have a bit of fun with some Colour Artist Inks, the Inspired Collection Watercolour Set and a few of the retired Shimmer Pots.

My youngest daughter picked the theme of "Scooby Doo" for her 10th Birthday this year, which was a bit of a challenge as there is not much Scooby themed party gear here in Australia.So what is a Mum to do?? Make it herself.

 

I started by joining two huge sheets of cardboard together and hand drawing the Mystery Inc Gang in the Mystery Van, leaving a head space to cut out above the steering wheel.

Next I used the Colour Artist Inks to paint the Mystery Van. I chose to use the Artist Inks for their vibrant colours and their ability to go a long way.

I varied the size of the paint brush depending on the detail of the van and just kept painting until it was all coloured in.

For the Mystery Gang and Scooby Doo I used either the Watercolour Inspired Collection set or the Shimmer Pots and just painted/coloured the details in.

 

Lastly I cut a hole above the steering wheel for Paige and her guests to pop their head through the photo prop and set it up at the party with the Instamax Camera beside it so that they could take their own photos. It was a huge hit with the kids and adults alike. 

Below I thought I would share a few more of the photos from the party where we all had a great time and filled our bellies.

Go, SEE, do! By Tracey Campbell

Hello and welcome Colour Blasters, it is my turn again on the blog today and I want to share a layout where I created a fun, funky and messy background with some of the Colour Blast products.  

First up I prepared a sheet of cardstock by painting square in the middle of it with White Heavy Gesso and a very large paint brush.

I apologise for the photo, but I wanted to try and show you how I just painted the Heavy White Gesso in he centre of the cardstock.

Using a thick 1 inch paint brush I dry washed some Mermaid Colour Artist Ink. Dry washing is simply dipping a dry paint brushes edges into a small amount of ink or paint and applying it lightly to your paper. Keep using your lightly inked/painted brush until the ink/paint wears off onto the paper. It gives you a streaky look to your media. As you can see I applied the Colour Artist Ink in a cross hatched messy way, over the top of the square of Heavy White Gesso.

 I adhered a small corner of patterned paper to the bottom left hand corner of the Colour Artist Ink / Heavy White Gesso square. I then used Slipper Colour Artist Ink to apply some messy streaks over the edge of the patterned paper and some random cross hatching on the Mermaid square with a paint brush.

 Then using the bristles of the paint brush I flicked splatters of Slipper Artist Ink over the page.

 Here you can see all of the back ground to give you an idea of what it looks like.

 Once the Artist Ink was dry I applied some Deep Water Colour Paste through a stencil to add some texture to the page.

 Here you can see the positioning of the stencilled Colour Paste.

 Next I add the photo and the embellishments. I wanted to show the funky Colour Blasted background so I grouped my photo and the embellishments in the bottom left hand corner over the top of the pattern paper.

For the title I used a small amount of Colour Shimmer Dust in Duke and Lollipop. Using a dry paint brush I picked up the smallest amount of the Shimmer Dust and lightly tapped it over the top of some white chipboard letters. Once the Colour Shimmer Dust was on the chipboard I simply gave it a light spray with some water to activate.

Here is the finished layout - a funky page which allowed me to get messy and have fun. It is bright and full of elements that remind me of my daughter.

Doddle Blob Art by Tracey Campbell

Greetings and salutations lovely people.

I have had a few changes happen with work and subsequently at home... I am in the Navy and am usually land based, well I have just been posted onto a ship and have had to leave the kids with my husband (who is usually the one at sea) and move to Sydney and on to the ship. The reason I am telling you this is that my way I deal with stress is doodling, it takes my mind off things and helps me feel relaxed...


so this post is about how I use Colour Blast Shimmer Cubes to create creature doodles out of blobs of colour. 

Activate the Colour Shimmer Cube, here I have used Deep Water, create a random shape using a paint brush. Push the colour around, I usually keep in mind that I want two eyes, a mouth and some times a nose and leave a few spaces of white where these will go.

I usually do a few blobs of Shimmer Colour at the same time, to create a few creatures when I feel the need. This is also a good way to use up any extra paint, spray or other media that you have used on other projects.

When the Deep Water Colour Shimmer Cube colour was dry I add a second colour, in the photo above I have used Sunshine.

Here you can see I have used a few other colours for the second colour; they are Royalty and Leather. Even at this stage you can see that the blobs have taken on a similar shape of an animal.  

When completely dry I use a black fountain pen loaded with Soot Colour Blast Artist Ink, you can use a normal black pen, and doodle on the blob to make them come to life. Below are a few close ups of some of the doodle blobs that I created.

Here you can see the six creatures I created. They are not realistic, but that wasn't my intention. My intention is for this activity to bring about some mindfulness and relax. Art is a great way to release stress and with Colour Blast you can not go wrong.

Mermaid Adventure by Tracey Campbell

Hello Colour Blasters I am back with another Magical page for you, instead of Unicorns this time I trying out the Colour Blast products on Mermaids. This was one of those layouts that I had no idea what I wanted to do....except use Colour Blast to make it look like a water theme, all because I had these photos of my daughters learning how to swim like Mermaids.

To start my layout I used Just Blue Colour Paste and spread it across the centre of my cardstock to represent the ocean. I must admit one of my favourite things to do with Colour Paste is to spread it, it is so soft and smooth and reminds me of spreading butter on a piece of warm fresh bread.

 As there was lots of splash of Mermaid fun on the day the photos were taken I wanted to represent them so I splattered Mermaid Colour Artist Ink in the top left and bottom right hand of the cardstock. I wasn't too sure how the Artist Ink would dry on the Colour Paste so I was very careful to leave it long enough to dry completely. The Artist Ink does dry and set on the Colour Paste, but please note that it dries a darker hue. When doing the splatters I used a large fat paint brush to create bigger drops and then blew on them slightly to cause some of them to run a little. * Please note that the Artist Inks are our newest products and Tenisha has been so busy showcasing them at Trade Shows and Craft Fairs that the website has not been updated to reflect - however if really need to get your hot little hands on these fabulous items then please e-mail Tenisha directly. Using Bling, Deep Water, Punch and Royalty Shimmer Cubes Watercolours I painted through a Mermaid Stencil. I wasn't too sure if this was going to work as I have previously used normal watercolours to paint though a stencil before and it had been a disaster as the watercolours were too runny and distorted the image. However with the Colour Shimmer Cubes I only activated them with a small amount of water and kept loading up the paintbrush to get a good intensity of colour on the brush and they worked like a dream.





Once the Colour Shimmer Cube Mermaid was dry I decided I needed more splashes of water so I used Deep Water Colour Paste and spread some through a water splash stencil. Please note that the Colour Shimmer Cubes are designed to dry out after use so leave those lids off to dry - if you put the lid on when wet you may get some mould growing, from contact off your brush or fingers.

 You can't tell from this photo buy I have added my photos to the background, one in the top right and one in the bottom left hand corners and for the finishing touch I added a large chipboard title. The stark whiteness of the title looked a bit out of place so I decided to give it a bit mess water look too, I used a plastic tool to spread some of the Deep Water Colour Paste over it.

So this is how it turned out - very much a water themed layout inspired by Mermaids and the beautiful colour palette of the Colour Blast Products.

Magical by Tracey Campbell

Have you seen Colour Blasts newest products yet? The Colour Artist Inks and the Shimmer Brush Pen!! They truly are magical. The Artist Inks are bright, bold, intense colours that can be diluted down with a bit of water to create hues and lighter tones that blend so beautiful together. While the Shimmer Brush Pen adds the perfect amount of shimmer to any creation.  
Warning - these products are hot off the press and are only available through Wholesale right now, so you will have to ask your local scrapbooking store to get some in for you and order them through the Colour Blast Store.
As soon as I got my hot little hands on them I knew I wanted to create with them.... I just needed inspiration and I found it in my daughters 10th Birthday Party..... A Unicorn!!

 A Magical page for a Magical time.

 I started by drawing a unicorn head in led pencil.

 Using a soft bridle brush I then applied water to the area of the head where I wanted colour.

 Whilst the paper was wet with the water still I painted the Colour Artist Ink on. As I only wanted a soft colour for the head of the unicorn I blotted some of the ink off the paper with a paper towel. HINT - The more water you add to the paper while you are painting with the Artist Inks the more diluted and soft the tone you will get. The Colour Artist Ink I used for the horn was Barley and for the face I used Slipper.

I continued to paint the rest of the Unicorn with the Artist Inks until it was how I wanted. I have added a close up of some of the head as I got very immersed in creating and forgot to take some step by step photos as I did it. Sorry. As you can see I worked more Artist Ink and water around for the mane, the ear and the rest of the head. I used Berry, Mermaid and Maine.

 Once the Artist Inks were completely dried I filled a fountain pen with the Soot ink and drew the outline around the Unicorn. I really love how flexible these inks are, perfect for painting, splattering and even writing with. I have played with the ink in the fountain pen for journaling.... but I will leave that for another post!

I then used a paint brush and water and went over the Soot drawn lines to make them bleed. The Artist Inks are water based so if you work with them whilst they are still damp you can create many different effects - blending, bleeding, fading, just to name a few.

 To finish off the background for my layout I wanted to create a whimsical look, so I wet the page with water and painted blobs of Artist Ink in Slipper, which I then tilted the page and let it run down in streaks.

 I repeated this process with Mermaid Artist Ink.

 When the Artist Inks were dry I sprinkled some  Duke Shimmer Dust around them.

Which I then sprayed with water and let it run down the page too. I did this as I wanted to add some shimmer to the page. HINT - The Artist Inks are very bold in colour but do not have any shimmer in them but you can add some with some of the other Colour Blast products like the Shimmer Dust, Shimmer Spray or even the Shimmer Cubes.

 Using the Artist Inks in Slipper and Berry I painted a large white chipboard title. I used the Berry on the top half and the Slipper on the bottom, once I got the two colours on there I went back and added a bit more Slipper over the top of the Berry. The Artist Inks blended easily together to create a ombre effect.

 Being a whimsical page I need more sparkle or shimmer so I grabbed the Colour Blast Shimmer Paint Brush Pen and simply painted it directly onto the title.

The Shimmer Paint Brush is one of out newest products and if you love shimmer without any mess then this "baby" is for you!! It is divine - so much shimmer in a fully concealed pen.  

To finish off I simply added a few layers of patterned paper under the photo and glued the title across the page.

I must warn you that both the Artist Inks and the Shimmer Brush Pen are totally addictive and you will find yourself reaching for them every time you create.
