Hi Lovelies,

Today I am sharing a page I created using some Cocoa Vanilla Studio papers.  I wanted to show that you can create an awesome mixed media page using papers you have in your stash.  A fantastic page doesn't always have to start with a blank piece of cardstock.

So, what I did was I chose a patterned piece of paper that complimented the photos I was working with.  The photos are of my son and the colours of his little quad bike dominate so I used these as a starting point.  To the background, I added a wash of Colour Blast Colour Spray in Violet and also created a paint from some Steel Colour Paste by just adding some water.  Once these were dry, I added some stamping over the top.  I love a bit of spatter and Road Base Colour Spray is my go to colour you can see it here in this close up.

I also used the Colour Spray in Violet to colour my chipboard with a hint of Road Base.  You can paint your chipboard in gesso to create a nice base with "tooth" but I'm a bit lazy for that and just add the colour straight to my chipboard.  You can see a peek of the chipboard in this photo.

Another thing the Colour Sprays are awesome for is colouring embellishments especially the DIY embellishments.  The suck up the colour beautifully and stay quite bright even after they are dry.

ATC 'S by Anguree

Hello there everyone

I hope you are enjoying the holidays season and have plenty of time to relax and create.

Today I am sharing a couple of ATC's with you I made using the Colour Paste and Colour Shimmer Dusts.

I created a background using the Stormy Weather Colour Paste through a chevron stencil. Once this was dry I randomly stamped it and cut little ATC regtangles measuring about 2.25 x 2.75 inches. Next I matted them on black cardstock.

The next step was to add some texture.

I chose only little pieces of chipboard to embellish my ATC'S and decided to colour them using Candy Colour Shimmer Dust which I mixed with water and brushed on like a water colour.

Next I chose some chipboard words and embossed them with Steel Colour Embossing Powder.

Once this was done I simply adhered everything and added my final embellishments.

My turn up on the blog today with a bright and vibrant yet grungy boy mixed media layout.

Sometimes when you pick up a photo and you realllly want to scrap it but the colours seem to bright and all over the place and perhaps you have a bold pattern or some distraction in the photo. I used to stress about it, perhaps i'd even print it in black and white to help myself out BUT I made the decision that with mixed media you can use those bright colours and bold patterns in your photo to create the perfect background to match....so that's how I'm rolling these days.

With the photo that I used you can see the bold green and yellow graffiti in the background plus not to mention his bright Carribean blue shirt so those are the colours i decided to concentrate on..plus a bit of black to grunge it up in honour of the graffiti feel to the layout.

Let's get started on the tutorial!

Step 1 - Draw a rectangular frame in the centre of your page with a black waterproof marker, then go over the top of the black frame with a masking fluid pen or fine applicator. Masking fluid is a fantastic tool to add to your Mixed Media creations, you can block colours with it very easily..

Step 2 - Add a small amount of Colour Shimmer Dust in Paris and Lush to a paint palette tray and then add a small amount of water. Using a spray bottle of water and a paint brush add colour to your blocked area. I sprayed the area first with water and then added splashes of colour here and there, I also added after it had dried, a bit of Sunshine Colour Shimmer Spray by dipping a clean paint brush into the spray bottle and dripping it onto the coloured area.

Step 3 - after the coloured area has dried completely, you can remove the masking fluid barrier simply by rubbing it with your finger and lifting it up and off. I then used a lovely circle stencil and traced the lines and the circle over the top of the coloured area.

Step 4 - Add some Dusty Charcoal Colour Paste with a palette knife and stencil in places over your layout.

Step 5 - Grab your selected  Colour Sprays and Colour Shimmer Sprays and spray your selected embellishments, I have used an old set of Resist chipboard stars that come packaged plain and then you colour them yourself...

Step 6 - Add some more Colour Blast Paste in Sunshine

Step 7 - Add some grungy stamping with a black versafine ink pad after the Sunshine Paste has completely dried. Then add another laying of stenciling using Colour Paste in Apple of My Eye.

Dry thoroughly and then add your last touches to the layout.

A few extra details at the end to put your layout together:

1. spray water at the top edge and add a few drops of Carribean Colour Spray and spray water over the top of the colour and let drip down into the middle of your page, only a small amount, once dry do the same to the bottom edge.

2. Add some more grungy stamping using a black archival ink pad

3. Add some black splatters using Roadbase Colour Spray.

4. Glue your photo and background papers down with a little bit of black cotton underneath them

5. Add your title and coloured stars and Heart embellishment. Glue them down.

You are now finished, woohoo!

Hello You by Ree Peace

Happy New Year everyone from Tassie!!

What a great start I have made to this year, playing with paper and colour everyday and making plenty of mess too!

This LO is so soft and subtle, I hope you get the same feel for it through the lens and on screen as others have in person, however I did manage to cover most of the mixed media up somehow!

This is my precious Niece back at Easter time and she had just woken from siesta so happy and content with a fresh surprised look...I fell a little harder for her at that moment!

After having a clean up and sort out I found it extremely easy to grab colour co-ordinating pieces up ready to create with. This is one of my favourite things to do before creating as it reminds me of what I have while also giving me choice at the table in the here and now.

This is my first time playing with this range of 7 Dot Studio and it is so yummy...be prepared to see how easy it is to match colours from different Colour Blast ranges!

First prepping the page with Heavy Gesso in White , this stuff is fabulous! So smooth to work with, with great coverage...using a sponge in a 'cross hatching' style created a cool texture and subtle layers. 

Again with Gesso and a titch of Peacock Colour Shimmer Dust (a titch is all that is needed) I developed the perfect 'green/blue' to match the chevron of the printed paper.



Again I used a sponge to apply the coloured Gesso through a stencil.

Using the Colour Shimmer Spray a little differently, I poured Tangereen Dream into a dish and 'stamped' circles onto the dry Gesso, building the layers.

And with the photo added backed with white tissue, gauze, and washi with a balance of chipboard words, word stickers (from the 7 Dots range) and some flowers you have a very subtle and soft mixed media LO fit for a teeny tiny baby =)

"Making Waves" by Melissa Struhs

Morning Everyone! I hope that you have all had a safe and relaxing break. During that week between Christmas and New year I have been in a state of using some older supplies or as I refer to it...."Stash Busting" and I found an amazing piece that is designed for colouring and altering. Pefect partner for everything Colour Blast. When you look at the whole layout it looks as if I have been adding laying down layer after layer with all of the patterns you can see...not actually the case at all!

I knew that my photo's really screamed for various shades of blue and the Duke and Navy Colour Shimmer Dusts were a fabulous combination to bring together the light and dark tones I wanted.

In the back of my stash was a 12x12 white resist chipboard sheet that has an all over grid with flourishes in all of the corners, it was hard to photograph but you can see partial amounts of it...

Using the tip of a palette knife, the shimmer dusts were sprinkled randomly

over the surface of the resist chipboard. If you haven't played with them yet, a little goes a long way and you can use them sparingly.

Using a small water spray bottle, a misting was added over the entire piece. A little extra water can be added where the colour hasn't moved to.

You can really help the colours swirl together by tipping the project around so the colour floats where you would like it to go. You can really see the resist patterns lift at this point, the darker the colour, the better it looks.

I had recently seen a rock salt tutorial and thought I would give it a whirl. It was supposed to draw some colour away leaving white patches, but really all it did was take away the moisture leaving patches of dry shimmer dust...Not exactly what I had in mind but interesting. I actually let the project sit for about 12 hours to dry naturally

and this is how it looked after the rock salt was scrapped off.

It also drew a lot of the blue colouring away and left behind a purple. As nice as it was, purple was not what I wanting. I very rarely throw out projects that fail,

I like the challenge of trying to make it right and few hours later made the decision to take several baby wipes to the piles of shimmer dust and buffed it into the patterns even more. This effect was much better as it took away all the residue but still gave you the original look.

My photo's were matted and layered with some basic script and distressed patterned paper before a stencil was applied directly over them with Singin' the Blues and Just Blue Colour Pastes,

a secondary stencil had Deep Water Colour Paste applied as well. I love those 3 colours together for tone on tone effect.

While the pastes were still wet, assorted coloured sequins were embedded for interest.

My title was sprayed and then roughly embossed with Deep Water Colour Shimmer Spray and Deep Water Colour Embossing Powder,

I used no ink during the embossing technique, just hoped the shimmer spray would be enough.

The embossing powder rolls up into small balls as it is heated and looks for something to cling to, creating bubbled appearance. A tropical chipboard leaf also had Deep Water  Colour Embossing Powder added in the same technique. You can see that close up further down the page.

And finally to build an embellishment cluster, filigree metal pieces were inked and embossed with Just Blue  Colour Embossing Powder  a smaller piece was also done in Singin' the Blues  Colour Embossing Powder but I forgot to take a photo of that one... but they look great layered on top of each other.

And lastly, a couple of close up's of the details!

Now it's time to go hunting in the stash for something similar to work some Colour Blast magic on.
