"Love You" by Sue Plumb

Sue Plumb here today with my latest design team project for you. Today I have a mixed media scrapbook page to share that features my favourite Colour Artist Inks; Colour Paste; and a photo of my daughter and I that was taken recently when we were out celebrating her 10th birthday.

I started my page with a sheet of heavy weight cardstock, which I spritzed with water from a spray bottle, and then left it for a minute or two to soak in, before adding another little spritz to moisten the surface again.

I then took my Colour Artist Inks and began by applying some 'Sunburnt' ink, by using a brush to add drops around the page. As soon as the ink hit the wet surface, you can see how the colour began to fan out and soak in where the water had been applied. (Allowing some of the water to actually soak in and penetrate the cardstock before applying the ink is what gives the "feathered" effect you can see.)

I then repeated the process with both the 'Barley' and 'Cranberry' Colour Artist Inks, ensuring the colours were dispersed in different areas of the page. In some places the colours naturally began to run together; whilst in other areas it either required a slight tilt of the page, or an additional little spritz of water.

Once I was happy with how the inks looked I set it aside to soak in and dry for a while before finishing it off with a heat gun. (I didn't use the heat gun right away as I didn't want too many "hard" water lines in my background - instead I wanted a "softer" look.)

Once the background was dry, it was time to add some texture and contrast. I chose 'Dusty Charcoal' Colour Paste, as I thought it would provide a good dark contrast against the inks. I used a small floral stencil and applied the paste using  palette knife; moving the stencil around to get the flowers placed where I wanted them. (I dried each area with the heat gun before re-applying the stencil to ensure the paste did not get smudged.)

Once the background was complete, it was simply a matter of adding some layers before adding my photo on top. I used a coloured paper doily; punchinella; dyed muslin; and a few pieces of coloured wire (all from D-lish Scraps). I secured everything in place with staples before adding my photo on top.

After the photo was in place, I added some simple embellishments - handmade heart from Charms Creations and some small acrylic hearts from Corbett Creations.

I also added some matching acrylic chevron arrows; and small phrase stickers from Cocoa Vanilla Studio.

I used Heidi Swapp printed acrylic words for my page title, and added a Cocoa Vanilla Studio chipboard sticker onto the corner of my photo.

To finish my page, I added a few splatters of 'Soot' Colour Artist Ink and I was done.

For this page I've used the following

I started this page using the Simple Stories "Life in Color" collection.

It's a few years old but still one of my favourites.  

After working out where I want all the elements to be featured, I start on my background.
Firstly some stripes with the 
Colour Shimmer dust Candy

Then some more stripes with Colour Shimmer dust Sunflower

It was at this point that I wasn't really sure what to do.
I thought the background needed something extra!!!
I briefly considered stamping but then remembered I had this relatively new, fun stencil.
Teamed with Black Heavy Gesso

I've added lots of different areas of Black Heavy Gesso to the background.
*** Caution: the black gesso will stain the stencil but doesn't affect future use ***

Once dried, I've added my layers.

Finally, some Charms Creations banners, journalling and stickers.

"Hashtag This" scrapbook page by Sue Plumb

Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project for Colour Blast with you. Today I have a fun mixed media layout I created using the Colour Artist Inks (my fave thing at the moment!) As I was using a small photo, I decided to create a more minimalist style piece, incorporating plenty of white space. This also helps the colours to really pop off the page.

This page was relatively simple to create (and sometimes that's OK!) I started with white cardstock, and applied some white heavy gesso using an old gift card to the centre of my page where I knew the inks were going to go. Then it was time to add my Colour Artist Inks.

I started by applying the Oasis ink with a small paint brush, allowing the ink to pool as I went, before drying with a heat gun. I then repeated the process with the Marine ink (overlapping some areas of the Oasis ink); before finally adding some highlights using the Grass ink. Each time I applied the ink I used a heat gun to dry it quickly so I could achieve the hard "water line" look I was after. (As you can see in my process shot below.)

Next, it was time to add some stamping over the top of my ink and around my page. I used stamps from Viva Las VegaStamps to add depth and interest to my layout.

You can see how adding the extra layer with the stamping really helps bring the inks to life.

To add an extra pop of colour to my page, I added a quick bit of random scribble to my focal area using a blue Posca paint pen. Then it was time to add some layers where my photo was going to go. I added an assortment of materials - paper bag; die cut frame;paper doily; and frayed gauze.

Then I added some scrap cardboard to the back of my photo before mounting it on top.

After my photo was in place it was time to add a few embellishments to complete my page. I added a Flutterby Designs flair button and some messy cotton thread directly onto the corner of my photo.

I also added a couple of Flutterby Designs stickers alongside my photo.

Finally, I added a Charms Creations chevron to help draw in the eye into my photo.

To finish my page I added a few splatters of Lagoon Colour Spray and Apple of My Eye Colour Shimmer Spray.

The first thing I did was collect a few items I thought would make a good page.

With my black background I sprayed Colour Shimmer Spray Deep Water straight onto the cardstock.

I then used the same spray to add some background splatter.

I felt like the background still needed something ... so I dug out one of my favourite stencils and added some Colour Paste in Steel.

I like to allow my backgrounds to dry naturally, so once dry, 

apply white Heavy Gesso around the outside to make a frame.

For me I like to apply this part pretty rough and messy - I think it adds to the final layout.

I've then added some water to the white gesso and used a fan type brush to add some background splatters.

Final steps to complete the page are the photo cluster and embellishing.

Don't you just love how the colour shimmer spray looks on black???

"Friends Like You" by Sue Plumb

Hi everyone!

Sue Plumb here today to share my latest Colour Blast design team project with you. Today I have a mixed media scrapbook page created using the new Colour Artist Inks; Colour Paste; some dies from Uniquely Creative; and a photo of my friends and I taken at a fancy dress birthday party a few months ago.

I started my page by laying down some colour using the Cranberry Colour Artist Ink. I used an old medicine dropper to add some drops of ink to my cardstock, then spread the ink using a wide brush and rough strokes. 

Next, I added wanted to add some contrast and depth to my background so I applied some Dusty Charcoal Colour Paste randomly around my page using a palette knife.

I then added further interest to my page by splattering a small amount of Soot Colour Artist Ink using a small, stiff bristled brush. (I love the fluidity of this ink for making splatters!)

Next, it was time to prepare some embellishments. I drew inspiration from the girls' feather headbands, and decided to use some of the new December release dies from Uniquely Creative to create my own feathers. After cutting some out from white cardstock, I used my  Colour Artist Inks filled water brushes to colour them. I used two colours - Sunburnt and Slipper, and after the ink had dried I added some faux stitched detail using my Sharpie paint pen.

Next, it was time to construct my layout. I gathered together some papers, which I layered together to form my photo mat. On top of that I also added some frayed gauze for subtle texture before mounting my photo on top.

I used the die cut feathers to embellish around my photo, bending up some of the edges as I went to create extra dimension.

In addition to the feathers, I also used some sticky quote phrase stickers  and small heart stickers from Flutterby Designs which I placed around the page. For my title, I used a Project Life card, which I cut the words from.

Alongside my title, I added a handmade heart from Charms Creations, which I topped with some messy cotton thread and a flair button from Flutterby Designs.

I finished my page by adding some stamping and handwritten journaling.
