Love This by Tracey Campbell

Well if you would like to find it head to the Bee Arty Hive on Facebook, here you will find the challenge along with all sorts of inspiration from the Creative and Design Teams, beautiful layouts that the members of the Hive have done, along with a group of friendly lovely people ready to say hello and welcome you.  I used the Bee Arty February Challenge as inspiration for my layout, so grab a cuppa and sit back with me as I take you though my process.

The February Challenge was a sketch challenge with beautiful hues of purple. Now you do now have to use both the sketch and the colour palette together if it is too challenge. You can simply do the sketch or just use the colours. The choice is yours.

I deicide to give both a go.

I started by going through my stack of Bee Arty paper supplies to see what purples I had. I found lots of smaller pieces of  paper left over from the Trend Setter Collection and a piece of Symbolic from the Three Six Five Collection but I didn't find a complete 12x12 for the background so I had to create one.

To do this I took out a piece of  White Cardstock, the Vamp and Basket Background stamps

Using a clear Embossing Ink stamp the large image from the Vamp stamp set onto the centre of the white cardstock, the repeat so that the image spread across the base. See the photo below for the final placement of the stamping. You will only be able to see a slight image of the stamp at this stage, I have already applied Embossing Powder to this image below. Which is the next step I will take you through.

One at a time sprinkle some Colour Blast Embossing Powder randomly over the wet Embossing Ink and tip the excess back into the pots. I used Lovely Lilac, Blush and Rose Petal, all three colours beautifully match the colour selection for the challenge. Remember to sprinkle, then tip off the excess. Do not do another colour until you have tipped off the first colour or you will mix up the colours of the remaining Embossing Powders.

Next use a heat gun and activate the Embossing Powders. You will create a stamped background that has the image with various colours through it. 

Next use a purple ink and stamp the crosshatched flower image from the Basket Background stamp over the top of the Embossed Vamp image. Tip: I have actually cut the rectangle boarder off from the Basket Background creating two separate stamps. I did this simply by pushing through a very pointed pair of scissors through the blank corner of the stamp and cut around the Basket Background, being very careful where the two images get very close to each other. It can be a bit scary doing this but it gives you more flexibility with the stamp - creating two from one.

Next I used Lovely Lilac Colour Shimmer Spray and squirted it around the page. Hint: When using the Shimmer Sprays if you press the squirt head down slowly it creates large drops, when you press fast it created a fine spray.

The photo below is how the back ground looked after I had finished spraying the Lilac Colour Shimmer Spray on it.

I felt it need a bit more contrast to the background so when dry I took the lid off the Royalty Shimmer Spray and flicked drops of it across the page using the straw as the tool to create droplets.

Here is the final background. 

Next I cut and tore two pieces of the purple papers from the Trendsetter and Three Six Five collections. I left straight edges on the top and left hand side of the paper and tore the edges of the right and bottom edges. I then used the Vamp stamp set and the Rose Petal Embossing Powder to stamp the left and bottom of the rough rectangles and set it with a heat gun.

I then adhered the paper rectangles together, overlapping the bottom right corner of one and the top left corner of the other. I repeated this and adhered the photos the same way. This created a funky shaped photo mat.

I then glued the matted photos to the background, see the final layout for the positioning. The next step was to create a rectangle boarder around the photos.

To do this I used the rectangle edge from the Basket Background stamp. I covered up my photos with some scraps of cardstock, so that they wouldn't get any ink on them. I then used some purple ink and stamped the rectangle around both photos. 

I then decided that the background didn't look complete I felt it need a bit more of a mulberry colour to it to complement the colour palette in the challenge. So I mixed my own colour using two Colour Blast Colour Sprays. I poured a small amount of Bubblegum Colour Spray into a container then added two tiny drops of Indigo Colour Spray. I mixed them well and added a boarder around the very edge of my base. I then added a drop of the liquid to the edge and blew through a straw to make the liquid spread out across the cardstock. 

I embellished the layout by adding some paper flowers.

The final step was to add a title. 

I am happy with how it has turned out, I do know I need some more purple tones and hues in my scrapping supply for the future as I am now out of them. They are not usually a colour I use much but I really like the monochromatic way it all looks.

Hi all

I've got something pretty cool to share today.

Did you know that depending on how much water you add to the Colour Shimmer Dusts you can change the intensity of the colour and even the actual colour?

On this page I used Colour Shimmer Dust in only two colours, Sunflower and Amber, but I was able to get three colours in my page.

Using a water brush I added only a small amount of water to the Sunflower Colour Shimmer Dust and then swiped across my page to make stripes in yellow. 

Then I added more water and swiped more stripes in more of an orange colour.

Then using Amber Colour Shimmer Dust I swiped stripes in a more red colour.

See the yellow and then see the orange...it's only subtle but it's definitely different...but still the same Colour Shimmer Dust.

How cool is that?

For my title I sprayed a simple word cut out of white cardstock with Sunshine Colour Shimmer Spray and let dry. The cardstock soaks up some of the Colour Shimmer Spray and gives some depth to the simple flat title. I love the unevenness of the colour on the title.

After assembling my page with lots of embellishments like punchinella, gauze and flowers, I finally added some splats of Midnight Colour Shimmer Dust. Again I used a water brush and a small amount of the shimmer dust and then splat.

I love how you can add more water to the shimmer dusts and the colours change....very cool hey?

Mediums have taken over in my Scrapbooking.....

How about yours?

I work a lot with minimal embellishments and just add paper kits.

This finishes off my pages nicely letting my mediums set the scene on my page.

But like many of you I have an abundance of patterned papers.

They are clogging up my cupboards with most purchased many years ago.

So how do you blend the old with the new??

I chose to work with Steel Colour Paste.

The intensity as it dries is just what I was after to get the depth of colour.

Colour Shimmer Spray in Rose Petal also married nicely.

Starting with white cardstock I inset a smaller square with my patterned paper.

Using a stencil the Paste was applied working in from the edges creating a border.

I started first working from the corner.

and made my way around the page.

This particular stencil was actually a tree but the way its been used is more like a vine.

Stencils can be adapted if we flip them and think of other ways to use them.

Once the Paste was dry I set to work with the Colour Shimmer Spray.

Concentrating on the areas where Paste has been applied I spritzed the edges again turning

my page so I was working from the outer edge in.

As you can see its not the most fashionable paper but just wait....

Using a gel pen and freehand I created a double lined border around my inner sheet.

This was finished with a few crosses and a bow.

My bow has ended up upside down.

Don't forget to keep an eye on which way is up and not confuse that part like I did.

The frame pictured above was a die cut from a just add paper kit.

I roughly applied the Colour Paste using simply my finger and set aside to dry.

The next step was to heavily spritz the frame using the Rose Petal Colour Shimmer Spray.

This I dried with the heat gun. You can see from the image there has been some bubbling of the paste.

This is from heating the dried Paste.

It has added another element of texture to the page.

The result is quite unique and a favourite of mine.

I continued to layer my pieces and I think the old has been brought into the new.

A little black ink around the edges making it slightly heavier where my vines enter

finishes this layout off nicely.

So when you get into your next project this weekend don't look paste those old papers.

Get them out and bring them into the new.....

Transparent Pocket Cards by Melissa Struhs

Morning Colour Blast Fans!

I have been recently sorting out a tonne of excess supplies leftover from some fairly big yearly projects and in an attempt to use up some leftovers, came to the conclusion that the best way is to create some small pocket cards for a divided page. These will give me some options...either to add extra photo's as I find others  that I haven't already used or simply as an embellishment card.

These are a really simple little project that all started with a couple of 3 x 4 Vertical cards and I  figured I would just play and see what came together...

On some white cardstock, I have flicked some Sunshine Colour  Shimmer Spray,

over both pieces with a long bristled brush. This helps to create mini and large droplets in very random places.

I then found an off cut of a patterned transparency, leaving me just a clear piece to work with.

I placed a script stencil over it and applied Sunshine Colour Paste...

and sat it aside to allow it to dry in it's own time.

A small corner of chipboard was spritzed with Apple of my Eye Colour Shimmer Spray, along the beaded pendant...

inked and coated with the matching Apple of my Eye Colour Embossing Powder through the filigree centre.

When the transparent piece was dry, I decided to add more texture but flipped it over to work on the reverse.

A splattered stencil and Apple of my Eye Colour Paste

were used and

it created a layered effect without mashing the colours together. Having to set it aside to dry, gave me more time to add more elements.

A wood veneer frame was inked and

one layer of Apple of my Eye Colour Embossing Powder

completed the textured look.

A metal embellishment had Versamark ink and Sunshine Colour Embossing Powder added to it.  With several elements coloured and still no plan for where the mini project was headed....I just started by moving pieces around.

The transparency was cropped and split across the 2 pocket cards,

to hide the adhesive a row of tickets was added at the top,

the chipboard piece was aligned to the left side....

the wood veneer framed had a small matt added and given an angular tilt, and the metal embellishment was glued to the right hand side. As always, I finished with a hand stitched edge to finish off the pocket cards.

It's amazing what you can pull together from a stack of random things and now I have some extra and matching pieces to add to an existing double page layout. I really loving mini projects lately, great for jump starting the mojo...a chance to just enjoy the process and play with our Colour Blast goodies.
