Happy Friday Everyone! OOHHH it's one month until Valentines Day... so this layout is kind of perfect to get into the swing of things - hahah!

I decided to have yet another play with the Chit Chat Collection - wow how many layouts I have created using this fantastic collection now? Is it 4 or 5 maybe?

I started my layout off with a background I created recently using the Boxed In Stencil, some Heavy White Gesso and sprinkling on some Aquamarine Embossing Powder. I have then dried it with a heat gun.

How therapeutic is it watching the Embossing Powder bubble away??? Or it just me?

So I did that background back in December - as I did it on my "Mask On" layout and wanted to recreate the background and maybe show you how I did it? Who knows... that was sooo last year! heheh...

I decided that it was time to use it and the Aquamarine colour matched perfectly with the Chit Chat Collection Papers... 

The other night, I wanted to scrap but had no mojo, so instead I got out this piece of paper and did some fussy cutting....

and yay.... {PS - I am not normally a fussy cutter, so don't look too close!}

So to put the page together it was all about layering & playing around with the bits and pieces I cut out. I also cut out the Grungy Filmstrip Metal Die  using Black Cardstock

It's perfect for a frame around photos, and also ripping the smaller filmstrip in half I have tucked underneath the other layouts on my page.

I then got out the fabulous Scrabble Stamp - how awesome are the alphas? 

I stamped US onto one of the Chit Chat patterned papers to create my title...

I also used the cute Male/Female stamp on the Charms Creations DIY flag, and you will see I have stamped it all over the background. To create a different effect I have used a mix of Gel Medium & Slipper Artist Ink!

I also used the Happy Clear Stamp "Together is my favourite place to be" - this will be IN STOCK SOON!

 Happy Friday Everyone! Hopefully it is anyway! I know I am glad it's Friday! I have 5 more days of work including this one, then it is HOLIDAY TIME! CAN>NOT>WAIT!

Today I thought I would share a layout I have been meaning to finish for ages! It went through a long process... firstly a while back I had a play with combining Colour Paste Snow White with Embossing Powder (I had excess of a mix of different Embossing powders I didn't want to throw out!} so I did a couple of backgrounds using Bee Arty Stencils... {check this blog post out!}

So I have had this background in my stash for quite a while. I used the Boxed In Stencil. I also have had the Covid papers to use for a while too, I knew I wanted to document Mask wearing, although had NO IDEA we would be wearing masks for so long! To colour my title, I have used a shimmer cube & a splash of water... here's a quick video... you could also use Shimmer Dust and water to create a similar effect!

I love the effect the Snow White Colour Paste and the Embossing Powder creates!

As you can see I have also added the Distance Stencil using the Envy Colour Paste. I did test out a few different Colour Paste colours to work out which one would match the best...

Believe in Yourself and Shimmer Dust! by Linda Pearson

 

For this project I wanted to highlight the amazing qualities of the Bee Arty Shimmer Dusts.  The intensity and versatility of these Shimmer Dusts really deserve the time to experiment with them.  Click on the link in the materials list to see the complete range.

Bee Arty products used in this project:

Gesso – Bee Arty heavy primer 250ml White
White Cardstock 350gsm 10 pack - 12"x12"
Boxed in stencil A5 – Tania Froud
Shimmer dust – sunflower, amber, cobalt, lollipop, passion
Colour artist inks  - Slipper, Berry, Midnight
Embossing powder   – Dusty Charcoal/Black
Darice 6 well paint palette
Craft Powder Spoon
Zen red rubber stamp set – Tania Froud
Serendipity clear stamp set – Elissa Ablett
x-press it double sided tape 2mm thick
Life of colour pens - Black
 
Other products used:
Texture/Modelling Paste
Palette knife
Embossing stamping ink and stamp plate

 

 

Generously apply 2 layers of Gesso over a journal page or White Cardstock 350gsm.  Drying thoroughly between each coat.

 

 

Using the Boxed in stencil A5, apply liberal amount of texture/modelling paste  through the stencil carefully across the middle of page only.  Allow to dry thoroughly.

 

 

Applying paste liberally allows the shimmer paste to pool in the crevices of the stencil.  
Spray the stenciled area with some water before applying shimmer mixes.

 

 

Prepare the background colours by adding a small amount of Shimmer dust, (Craft Powder Spoon, sunflower, amber, powders into the Darice 6 well paint palette.  Using a pipette add a tiny amount of water to each powder.  Using a round paint brush tap the amber shimmer liquid over the stenciled area. 

 

Watch the liquids as they settle and move on the page.  Spray with water to blend out the hard edges. 

 

 

Repeat this process with the sunflower mix, allow some of the mixes to blend.  Ensure there is lots of white area above and below the stenciling.  Allow to dry.

 

 

Place a couple of drops of Colour artist inks  - Slipper, Berry and Midnight into the palette, with a tiny brush tap some spatters over the page. 

 

 

Prepare the stamps (Zen red rubber stamp set and Serendipity clear stamp set), using the stamping plate and embossing ink and sprinkle the Embossing powder over the pressed ink.  Activate the powder with heat gun thoroughly.

 

 

Prepare the Shimmer dust – cobalt, lollipop, passion in the palette then add water as in previous steps. 

 

With a small paint brush tap and push the colours onto the stamped images allowing it to pool in the crevices.  Allow to dry thoroughly.

 

 

 

Fussy cut the stamped images then adhere the shapes to the page with x-press it double sided tape 2mm thick. 

 

 

Add border around the page using a black Life of colour pens and include some ascemic writing.

Tip In Flourishes

In this Blog entry I have added a tip in lace flourish to the page.  Enjoy the process and have some fun. 

List of materials used in this project

• White Cardstock 350gsm 10 pack - 12"x12"
• boning tool
• masking tape 
• Acrylic paints of choice - blue, wisteria, turquoise, light yellow, magenta (fluid paints can be used for this project)
• Silicone sponge (makeup) 
• Boxed in stencil A5  (background stencil)
• Flux A6 stencil  (focal stencil)
• Xacto craft knife or similar (must be sharp)
• Colour paste - Rose Petal
• Life of colour pens - yellow
• Heartfelt clear stamp, 
• Live your art clear stamp set, 
• Kind heart clear stamp set
• Black archival ink

The finished product of this journal page is A4 size, I used a piece of White Cardstock 350gsm 10 pack - 12"x12".  I made a crease at the A4 measurement to create a 'tip in' fold using a boning tool.

Firstly, mask off the crease line to keep the 'tip in' clear of base coat paint on main page.  Apply small blocks of colour over the A4 background using your finger in 'figure 8' fashion.  Add each colour in turn leaving the yellow and magenta last.  You may wish to dry off in between to eliminate muddying of colours.

N.B.  I did not gesso this paper in this instance, but you could if you prefer too.

Be sure to cover the whole of this A4 section of paper.  Completely dry off.

Using the Boxed in stencil A5, choose one of the background colours (not the pop colours e.g. yellow, magenta),  add a little white beside, blend using the silicone sponge then apply randomly over the stencil (don't have to use whole stencil).  Dry off.

Continue this process in same colour over the entire surface of the page.  Dry off.

Select another colour from your palette (not the pop colours e.g. yellow, magenta), again apply the focal stencil Flux A6 stencil randomly over the page, apply stencil in different directions. Dry off.

Remove the masking tape from the 'tip in' section.  In this project I opted to hand draw a similar 'flourish' design using the stencil as a guide only (see below).  If you are an accomplished craft knife user feel free to use the Flux A6 stencil to draw a pattern over the white area for your design.

I drew this design on a spare piece of card and adjusted until I was happy with the design then transferred this over to the 'tip in' page.

Before cutting out the shapes I marked in the areas to be cut out with a X to ensure I removed the correct sections.

N.B.  please use caution when using craft knives always place the non dominant hand well away (behind the cutting area) and always turn the page to make curves do not twist your arm.

After cutting apply more masking tape along the coloured background area along crease.

Select a 'pop' colour, Magenta, colour the cutout sections, may require two coats on both sides of the 'tip in'. Dry off and remove tape.

   

Mix Colour paste - Rose Petal with texture paste apply through Flux A6 stencil over the stenciled surface, allow to dry.

Add some intensity and dimension over the focal stenciled area using Colour Spray - Bubblegum.  Cover the page with power towel so the page is protected from over spray of ink.

Add some paint spatters in light yellow colour to add contrast and to soften the page and including both sides of the 'tip in' flourish also.

Add highlights to the pink flourishes using Life of colour pens - yellow around all of the stencilled areas.

On the underside of the 'tip in' highlight the cutout design shapes with the yellow pen.

On the upper side of the 'tip in' I chose to use a dashed line to highlight the cutout shapes.

In this project I also drew around the tip in cutouts, in yellow pen, onto the back page to create bubbles for the stamped sentiments.

Add small word / sentiment stamps that fit in the size of the cut out shapes.  In this project I included; Heartfelt clear stamp, Live your art clear stamp set, Kind heart clear stamp set with archival ink.
