Colour Artist Inks - 3 ways in 3 layouts! by Amanda Hartmann

Today I am sharing three layouts with some simple background techniques using Colour Artist Inks.

You will need:

* white cardstock

* a collection of Colour Artist Inks

The three techniques you see here are:

Layout 1: Using Stamped emboss images  with Artist Inks

Layout 2: Using Resist crayon and messy doodling with Artist Inks

Layout 3: Using textured/gessoed background with Artist Inks

Layout 1: Using Stamped emboss images  with Artist Inks

Stamp images to the background. Heat emboss with your chosen coloured embossing powder.

Check out all the options in store.

Then paint with your Artist Inks. Paint in an around the stamped/embossed images.

Layout 2: Using Resist crayon and messy doodling with Artist Inks

Doodle some circles and crosses on the background with a resist crayon. Or doodle any design you prefer. Then paint over with the Artist Inks.

Layout 3: Using textured/gessoed background with Artist Inks

Stick a range of textures to your base cardstock - tissue paper, die cuts, doiley. Then stencil more texture using light modeling paste.

Then dropper Artist ink colour to the page and heat set as you go.

She Flies- Chrissi Mannix

Hello Lovelies

Welcome to my first blog post as a part of the new Bee Arty Creative Team. I'm so excited to be creating as a part of the team.

Today I have created an art journal page using the Colour Artist Inks, my favourite Stardust Stencil and an easy, but awesome technique I wanted to share with you. 

I made this page using a very simple Gesso Resist technique. All you need is white gesso, a stencil of your choice and a water reactive medium of some kind.

It is as simple as applying a thin layer of gesso through your stencil of choice, and letting it dry. Then applying your water reactive medium to your page. I have used Artist Inks for this. I applied Colour Artist Inks in the colours: Calypso, Bordeaux and Slipper. The ink will move and blend over the page, but you will notice the image start to appear. When you dry your colour, take a baby wipe and wipe over the image, you will see it pop against your colours. This is the gesso resisting the ink.

Once it was dried, I added black splatters using Colour Artist Ink in Soot. To add a focal point to my page, I used an older Bee Arty stencil to add my title- She Flies. I used black gesso through my stencil for this. I love how it boldly jumps of the page.

Colour Artist Inks are some of my favourite Colour Blast products. The perform beautifully for this technique, and I love the way they blend and move.

Magic Adventure Layout- Chrissi M

Hello Lovelies,

Welcome back to the blog. Today I really wanted to play with the gesso resist technique again. I have had this layout idea in my head ever since I saw these photos.

 I knew I wanted to use the star stencil from the August "Going my way" collection in my backround. I seem to have lost my photos of this step, but the technique is easy- you apply white gesso through your chosen stencil BEFORE applying your colour and let it dry.

                  

Now time to add colour. I'm using Colour Shimmer dust in Duke. I sprinkled the powder directly onto my page and then sprayed with water. I love how they activate and flow.

Once I was happy with the coverage of my colour, I dried with my heat gun. As you can see, that gesso resists the colour and leaves a gorgeous pattern behind from the stencil.

Of course I had to add some splatters to the page. Good old Road Base colour spray for that as always.

Then it was time to add my photos. I had 3 photos I loved from this adventure, and I couldn't choose. So I decided to use all 3. Now multi photo layouts aren't usually my thing, but I made it work by making 2 of them smaller and fitting them all together. I added some cheese cloth behind my photos as a mat and to add texture, and I matted the whole layout on black cardstock for contrast.

For my title, I went with a thicker title, but I didn't like the white. It didnt pop enough. So I got out my Marine Artist Ink and added it to a spritzer bottle and coloured my title.

I added some Charms embellishments, I love that the stars were in 2 different sizes, and then added my journaling before calling it done. I love adding handwritten journaling to the white space on my layouts. I hope you enjoyed the layout, and got some ideas to try out in your own projects.

Resist Techniques with Selena Stevens

A technique I am going to show you today is “resist”.  It’s a fun and easy technique where a medium is placed on the paper and when a second medium is placed over the first it “resists” and doesn’t colour that area.

Here is a timelapse video of this resist process and I have included a bonus art journal page.

So, lets begin …

To start I gathered up all the items that I thought might create a resist effect as well some items I wasn’t sure about.  These included from left to right Colour Embossing Powder (Snow White), China Marker, Ball point pen, Heavy White Gesso, Washi tape, wax crayon and gelato.

I then sprayed and painted over these mediums to see the effect.  From top to bottom I used Colour Shimmer Spray (Leather), Colour Spray (Mocha), Colour Shimmer Dust (Midnight), Colour Artist Ink (Rust), Colour Shimmer Cube (Leather).

This is an art journal page that was a quick sketch to show the resist technique using the above mediums as well as Colour Artist Ink (Cranberry).

Air Con Selfies by Krisy Podolak

Hi Colour Blast Lovelies,

Krisy back again today to share with you a layout I created inspired by a pattern from within my photo.  This layout features a series of photos of my daughters taking "selfies" of themselves using a toy mobile photo and the HOT air from the Air Conditioning unit.  It was a really hot day and the air blasting from the unit was HOT but they thought it made them beautiful.

My daughter Poppy, is wearing a playsuit with a paisley type pattern on it so I decided I would try and mimic this in my layout.

This is my layout.

I used a Damask stencil and some Impasto paste to create a base pattern.  The Impasto paste drys almost like plastic and is shiny.  I knew that this would resist Colour Shimmer Dust.  The colour would take around it and probably a little bit on the Impasto paste but not enough to hide the pattern.  I used a palette of Midnight and Lollipop Colour Shimmer Dusts to create a wash over the Impasto pattern.  I used a lot or water and worked quite quickly to allow the colours to mix and blend.

Once I was happy with the blending, I dried it with a heat gun before stamping over the top with some permanent ink and a range of stamps.

You can really see the shimmer in this photo.

In the image below you can see how the colour has bled a little under the Impasto paste but it has mainly resisted it.
