Happy Birthday card by Amy Prior

Hi there Colour Blast fans! Amy Prior back with you all again today, this time sharing a quick card tutorial using the gorgeous new Colour Shimmer Cubes!

To create this fun background, I have added various layers of roughly painted flowers using the following Colour Shimmer Cubes colours: Sunshine, Tangareen Dream, Rose Petal, Blush, Punch, Lipstick, Fire Engine, Lovely Lilac, Royalty, Just Blue, Deep Water, Singin the Blues, Envy, and Apple of my Eye. 

The watercolour flowers were painted onto some trimmed watercolour paper gradually by using one colour at a time. 

Once the base colours were down, I could come back with other colours to create depth such as oranges over the yellow, and reds over pinks, etc.

When the watercolour paper was completely dry, I have adhered a white die cut Happy Birthday sign over the top  before adhering the whole piece onto a white 6x4 card.

To help the white pop more, I have traced around the edges of the die cut and the entire painted area with a black sharpie.

Hello Awesome Lovely Fun by Amy Prior

Hi there Colour Blast fans! Amy Prior back with you all again today, sharing not one, not two, but three layouts with you all that I have recently created.

This first layout is titled "Hello Fun!" and features a photo of me and my gorgeous girl Chloe.

To create the background for this layout, I have started off with a good quality piece of white cardstock, that I have added some Gel Medium through a stencil over the top of. Make sure you use Glossy Gel Medium for this technique. Normal Gel Medium is Glossy but a Matte Gel Medium will not work.

When the Gel Medium is completely dry, mix some Passion Colour Shimmer Dust with water and paint over the background using a large paint brush. The dry gel medium will automatically resist the water based Colour Shimmer Dust colour showing the beautiful stencilled pattern through. Spray around the edges of the coloured areas with water to let the colour disperse a little more. This will remove any harsh looking paint brush strokes creating a more natural looking watercolour effect.

The next layout that I have to share with you is a fun rainbow background layout titled "Awesome Fun". This layout features a photo of my dorky husband and kids trying to push poor Humpty Dumpty off the wall at Hunter Valley Gardens LOL.

To create this background, grab some good quality white cardstock, then proceed to spray a thin line of each of the following Colour Shimmer Sprays Sunshine, Tangareen Dream, Fire Engine, Lipstick, Rose Petal, Royalty, Just Blue, Singin' the Blues, Deep Water, Envy, and Apple of my Eye. Just one quick sprayed line of each colour is enough however if you want a more intense colour, spray each line a few times and dry before spraying the next colour. This will avoid them mixing too much which is what will occur if there is a lot of water on the page. 

When the sprays are all dry, add some Snow White  Colour Paste through a stencil over-the-top of the coloured areas. I love the gorgeous shimmer of the Snow White  Colour Paste and because it is semi-transparent, unlike the other Colour Paste colours, it is a subtle touch of shimmery texture yumminess over any colour!

The final layout that I have to share with you all today is titled "Lovely" and features a gorgeous photo of my two beautiful daughters and one of their cousins, Aurora. 

To create this background, I have started off with another piece of good quality white cardstock which I have covered with some Bead Gel Medium. This is simply Clear Micro Beads mixed with some Gel Medium if you want to try and make some yourself.

When the Gel Bead Medium is dry, spray some Sunshine Colour Shimmer Spray over the top.

Hi there Colour Blast fans! Amy Prior back with you all again today, sharing a fun mixed media layout created using some of my fave Colour Blast products!

Here is a quick step-by-step on how I created this layout...

Step 1: Cut some strips of old book paper, then adhere onto some Bazzil Marshmallow Cardshoppe Cardstock using some Gel Medium. Be sure to cover the bookpaper with gel medium to seal as well.

Step 2: Mix some White Heavy Gesso with water to create a wash and then cover the book paper entirely with the wash. Paint the whole 12x12 cardstock with the wash also to avoid any seams where the gesso and plain cardstock meet.

Step 3: Using the tip of a palette knife, scoop tiny amounts of Peacock  Colour Shimmer Dust and sprinkle over the background paper. 

Step 4: Using a spray bottle, spray some water over the Colour Shimmer Dust to react it. Avoid spraying too much water so you get this fun mottled look. 

Step 5: Let the background dry naturally then spray small amounts of water over any piles of powder that are still clearly visible.

To finish this layout off, I have added lots of layers of gorgeous We R Memory Keepers papers underneath my photo.

Lots of gorgeous butterflies were fussy cut from the We R Memory Keepers collection called Inked Rose. 

The finishing touches on this layout included some Simple Stories Reinforcers which are so much fun to add as little decorations on a page.

I have doodled around the edges of reinforcers with a black thin sharpie to help them pop off the background a little more.

Awesome fun by Amy Prior

Hi everyone! Amy Prior back with you all again today, this time sharing a fun mixed media layout featuring a photo of myself and my gorgeous friend Belinda Tandberg doing the Colour run at the Flutterby retreat in 2016.

I have a quick step-by-step tutorial for you all on how I have created this layout.

Step 1: Cut 75mm from each edge of a piece of black cardstock and then cut the centre out of a piece of 7 Dots Studio Cotton Candy Dreams 12x12 patterned paper. You can skip this step if you like, however I like to cut out the centre of paper when I am using it only as a border to avoid waste. 

Step 2: Scrape some Black Heavy Gesso through a 7 Dots Studio Writer's Block stencil to create a nice diagonal pattern of stencilling over the black background piece.

 

Step 3: Paint some 7 Dots Studio chipboard pieces using some White Heavy Gesso. I use the paint brush to dab the gesso onto the chipboard to create a nice texture.

Step 4: When the Gesso is dry, spray some Tangareen Dream Colour Shimmer Spray over the background in random patches leaving enough room for other spray colours to be added. 

Step 5: When the Tangareen Dream is completely dry, spray some random patches of Colour Shimmer Spray in Envy & Deep Water over the background as well. When using hot and cold colours together, it is best to start with hot colours, dry thoroughly, then add the cool colours or vice versa. This avoids any unwanted muddy brown mixing of the colours. 

Step 6: Paint a wood veneer title with some Tangareen Dream  Colour Paste. Again I have dabbed my paint brush up and down with the paint to create lots of texture on the title. 

Step 7: Cut random rectangles of 7 Dots Studio Cotton Candy Dreams patterned paper and then ink the edges of the papers, your photo and some embellishments using Black Archival ink and a blending tool. When cutting random rectangles for my layers, I always try to avoid cutting pieces that are larger in length or height than my photograph.

Step 8: When the Colour Paste & White Heavy Gesso is dry completely, add some black archival ink to the textured details by stamping the stamp pad directly onto the top of the painted pieces. 

Step 9: Layer all the pieces of paper and embellishments underneath and around the photograph to work with the shape of the stencilled background. 

There are so many gorgeous details on this layout and the shimmery goodness is so very pretty in real life. 

Some doodling around some letter stickers were the perfect finish for this layout.
