Special Delivery with Melinda Sweetman

Hey, hey Colour Blasters! Melinda here with you today sharing a little Christmas project with you! I know that the big day has been and gone but I had lots of fun creating this and it was SOOO easy and quick that I HAD to share ;)

I purchased the box from my local K-Mart and was inspired by another box also made by K-Mart but I was unable to pick up the one I was after so I DIY'ed it!!

First up I cut a cut file on my cameo. This cut was cut diagonally across my 12x12 piece of cardstock (I chose a colour I wouldn't use!) so I could make it a wee bit longer which turned out to the be the perfect size! I also cut a bunch of snowflakes so that I had a snowflake stencil!

Next up, I laid my stencil where I wanted it, grabbed my Colour Paste in Bling and got to spreading the colour across my cut file - using it like a stencil. I took a progress shot but it has vamooshed so you can see exactly what I mean in the next step as it is essentially the exact same thing!

I left my Colour Paste to dry over night and then did my next step this  time using my Snow White Colour Paste and my snowflake stencils. Again,  I just spread the colour through the stencil and left to dry!

While it was drying I got brave and added some splatters, hoping desperately that I didn't mush any of that wet Colour Paste. I used my Colour Shimmer Cubes in Fire Engine and Bling and LOVE how that added a tiny pop of colour and a little more randomness!

Again that was left to dry overnight and I am seriously in love with the finished project! My boys don't know that I made it as our Scout Elf Pixie turned up with it on 1st December filled with Advent Calendars and a letter from Santa!!

I (ok, ok, and Pixie!!) have found a couple of other uses for it over the month of December and love that it is now something we have that I can use each year!

Pixie used it to stack all of our Christmas books in one morning.

My littlest guy used it for reading!! He sounded out each letter of the word Santa and announced "Santa" afterwards! Kinda took me by surprise but man, it was CUTE!

And on Christmas Eve Pixie turned up IN the box with our Christmas Eve PJ's and a couple of other things she brings each year on her last day with us!

Eat, Sleep, Be Cute, Repeat with Melinda Sweetman

Hi there Colour Blasters, it's Melinda here with you today and I am sharing a sweet frame I made for a baby shower today!

This all came together pretty quickly (besides the stitching ;) ) and is so easy to re-create, I hope you follow along and get some inspiration!

First up, I started with my white cardstock and a cut file from the Silhoutte store. I chose to cut parts of the file with the blade to back with papers and chose to use my sketch pens to draw out some of the words for me to colour and then hand stitch around.

The very first thing I did after peeling the paper off the cutting mat was to do the water colouring. I used a pointy pallet knife to add a tiny bit of both the Paris and the Lush Colour Shimmer Dusts to my tray.

Now, don't let the colour of the dry dust confuse you!! These are both green colours and are STUNNING!!

The magic is when you add water ;) You can then see the true colour and all the beautiful shimmer. Which is exactly what I did next using a pipette, straight into the little wells.

Give them a good mix up and you get your shimmery, colourful watercolour-y media ready to go! I used a small-ish paintbrush and simply added colour to each outlined letter. I used a mix of both the Lush and Paris to give different shades and a little more depth to the words for a little more interest.

After that was dried, I went around all the coloured words with my pokey tool and poked holes about 1/4" all the way around for my stitching.

Me being me, I managed to smudge a little colour where I didn't want it - to rectify I quick grabbed a paper towel and mopped up as much of the colour as I could. I wasn't able to get all the colour up so I decided next up to add a few sprinkles of the green colours in diagonal across the page using the same paint brush - smudge covered, woohoo!!

Next up was the hand stitching. I chose a green coloured embroidery thread that matched pretty well to the Shimmer Dusts I had used. Now, this can be quiet time consuming but I love, love, love the finished product so am happy to put the time and effort in. I use a simple back stitch. Up from the back of the paper, down the next pierced hole, back up through the next hole and then back through the previous pierced hole etc etc.

I wanted to a little extra texture and interest so pulled out a star stamp (from a Christmas set!!) and stamped with my embossing ink the same diagonal as the green splatters and then heat embossed the very pretty Snow White Colour Embossing Powder. 

Oh lala, this is looking beautiful!

When that was all done it was time to back the cut words. I have used some scraps of a very pretty wood grain paper in my stash and just outlined the back of each letter and then glued on the paper.

I popped it into the frame I had purchased and I couldn't be happier with the end result!!

I really hope the parents-to-be love it but I am pretty certain it will be a hit!

Hello dear friends

I'm back on the blog today sharing this little canvas I made. Today is also my last share with Colour Blast and I would like to thank you all for your wonderful support comments and love. I will still be around the online sphere and look forward to be focusing on new exciting challenges.

Cover a small canvas with gesso and dry. I'm sure you noticed that Colour Blast now has it's own white and black Gesso to cover all your mixed media needs.

Add some modeling paste though a stencil.

Sprinkle a tiny amount of Duke Colour  Shimmer Dust onto the canvas. 

Add some water with a paintbrush and dry.

Add some Cobalt Colour  Shimmer Dust in the  desired spots with a paintbrush and water and dry.

Stamp the Canvas randomly with Archival Ink and add some Art stones.

Add some medical gauze. You will note I added some Singing the Blues Colour Paste but in the end very little of it was visible.

Emboss your chipboard with Steel Colour Embossing Powder. You can also paint it with your choice of ink it if you run out.

Adhere your chipboard and position your photo.

Matt the photo on foil and raise with scrap pieces of chipboard. Adhere your choice of embellishments and journaling and you are done.

Colour Blast "Scream Catcher" by Tracey Campbell

 Welcome everyone, Tracey Campbell here with a late Halloween treat for you. This year I wanted to create a few Halloween decorations for the house so I just had to use some of the awesome Colour Blast products on it. I have been thinking of making this for a little while now but never seemed to get around to it, well this year I spotted the perfect Dream Catcher that was crying .... or should I say screaming out to me to alter it into a spooky

 "Scream Catcher"

Get ready to get your spook on.....

First up I raided my chipboard supply to see what creepy things I had and low and behold I discovered quite a horde, which I picked two pieces from. A skeleton and a spider web with a spider.

First up to get a makeover with the some Colour Embossing Powder was the skeleton. I didn't have quite the right shade of darkness for my bones so I mixed two together, Leather and Stormy Weather, to create my very own shade that was perfect. Love how the Colour Blast Products blend so well together and that it is possible to change the colours if you need to. I inked all the chipboard skeleton with an Embossing Ink and then sprinkled the Colour Embossing Powder over the top. 

 When applying the Embossing Ink on the major part of the body and some of the larger limbs I did it a bit hap-hazardly as I wanted to expose some of the raw chipboard underneath. Next I hit it with the heat gun to activate the Embossing Powder.

Once it was cool to touch I tied the body parts together with some twine.

I was in a creative mind set and forgot to take photos along the way, so I am going to outline the process with a few close ups of the finished project. Using the Colour Shimmer Spray I coated the chipboard spider and web with the colour of Stormy Weather, I simply sprayed a layer over the chipboard. I then added a tiny spray of Road Base Colour Spray over the Stormy Weather to give it a bit more darkness as I knew I wanted to put the spider on the web and I wanted it to stand out. When the mists were dry I used a small paint brush and some  Fire Engine Colour Paste, to paint a diamond shape onto the back of the spider.

Now the real messy fun begins. I used the  Colour Sprays in Road Base and Love to change the colour of the Dream Catcher into a spooky dark Scream Catcher. Simply spraying the mists onto the fabric, lace and ribbon to change the look of any project.

 Using a hot glue gun I attached a few creepy embellishments, like cockroaches and fake spider web.

The finished "Scream Catcher" hanging proudly on the screen door handle, all ready for those trick or treaters.

I had many comments about the Scream Catcher on Halloween, mainly from the parents, I even had one offer to purchase it!!! But it will remain in out household for many years to come.
