Gift tags by Rachel Dutko

Hi Colour Blasters!

I hope you've had a wonderful Easter weekend!

Today I have a couple of gift tags to share with you that I have
created with Colour Blast products.

So let's take a look at how I created them-

Firstly I sprayed the tags with Singin the Blues Colour Shimmer Spray
for my first layer of colour.

Next I added some Apple Of My Eye Colour Paste through a stencil. I also added some stencilling to another piece of heavy weight cardstock, to fussy cut later to add
another layer and some more dimension to the leaves.

I then added some stamping with the corresponding stamp set over the stencilled leaves.
I also stamped some extra leaves, then coloured them with Rainforest Colour Spray.

Going back to my extra piece of cardstock, I used the leaves stamp and heat embossed with Dusty Charcoal Colour Embossing Powder.

My next step was to create some pink flowers.
On a sheet of heavy weight cardstock
I coloured one section with Bubblegum Colour Spray,
and one section with Blush Colour Shimmer Cube.
I then heat embossed some flower stamps
with Colour Embossing Powder in Lipstick and Rose Petal.

I then fussy cut my flowers and extra leaves and adhered them to the tags.
I also inked the edges for some definition.

I then added some embellishments, words and ribbons to finish my tags.

All ready for their recipients!

Thanks for looking

"Building Memories & Having Fun" by Melissa Struhs

Hello again everyone!
I am really glad to have had lots of time to get creative lately and have been churning out finished projects everywhere. Generally, when we have a new product to inspire the creative mojo, there is no stopping us. And that is what happened for me when I stumbled across this image of Amanda and I last year. I wanted something simple in style but also to keep the focus on us.

For this layout, it was a new set of clear stamps with a hand doodled floral cluster.

I began by stamping images with a black Staz on ink onto watercolour paper with my stamp platform and then set them aside while I chose my colour palette. It had been quite a while since I had used my Colour Sprays, so I decided that it was time to revisit them.

The layout I envisioned called for a softer, more subtle colour. So I began by adding water into my paint palette and then a few drops of colour at a time until I was happy with the depth of the colour. You can see that I made myself a swatch so I tcould est each of the colours and see how they dried before committing fully. I used the Saffron, Bubblegum, Sapphire and Sunset Colour Sprays

and the true intense colours can bee seen on the tops of the lids. Using a very fine brush, I was able to paint some colour onto the floral patterns. I made sure that I had 2 blooms in all 4 colours, but made sure that one of them a slightly darker for layering the pieces later on.

Once they were dry, I spent time fussy cutting them out.

I made sure that one variation had the leaves removed.

I also opted to remove some of the florals elements

or leaving them as they were. This was done by only cutting some of the images out.

On a Kraft cardstock background, a 12x12 script stencil had the Heavy White Gesso applied over the top. As a reminder, I have left my lid off for several hours to let it thicken to a fabulous consistency that is amazing for stencilled effects.

As always, there is always a part of your stencil that has bent and despite my best efforts, there is a couple of spots that were too messy...these are now considered spots to embellish over the top of.

Here's the first one....The full blue image was glued over the mess and the next layer had some 3D foam dots to give the next later some height.

They were also offset slightly so you could see the lighter or darker version underneath and layered were layered underneath and around a chipboard frame and photo.

After dressing the embellishments with brads and DMC cotton stitching and French knots, it was time to drag out the new Shimmer Brush Marker.

To add a little sparkle to the flowers, the clear version of the Shimmer Brush Marker added just a small touch of shimmer. Simply shake well, squeeze lightly and brush onto the area requiring some glitter. I can happily say that this did not reactivate the Colour Sprays and no colour transferred to the brush.

Here's a couple of close up's to look closer at the layering, the pastel shades of Spray Colours and the Shimmer Brush Marker in action.

Don't be afraid to dilute some of those brighter colours down, it gives you so much more choice when matching it to patterned papers or colours in your photographs.

Thanks for stopping by the blog,
Mel.

Rainbow Dream Catcher by Rachel Dutko

Hi Colour Blasters!

Today I have a dream catcher mixed media project to share.

I've taken my inspiration from the November challenge in the
Colour Blast Creative Corner Facebook group.

Here is my dream catcher project using feathers.

And here is how I created my project.

I started by creating all of my feathers.
For the large feathers I used a stencil and a selection of Colour Pastes - Fire Engine, Royalty, Apple Of My Eye, Singin The Blues, Sunshine and Tangareen Dream.

To create the smaller feathers I stamped some feather shapes onto water colour paper, then coloured in with Colour Shimmer Cubes (Fire Engine, Blush,
Singin The Blues and Envy)  and Colour Shimmer Dusts
(Candy, Sunflower, Amber, Lollipop, Duke, Lush and Peacock).

I then fussy cut all the feathers then heat embossed random patterns on each one with a contrasting colour for some extra detail. I've used a different Colour Embossing Powder on each feather - Envy, Sunshine, Just Blue, Tangareen Dream, Rose Petal,
Deep Water, Singin the Blues, Bling and Fire Engine.

I used acrylic paint and tissue paper to create my background on a large sheet of cardboard. Once it was dry I applied Steel and Dusty Charcoal Colour Paste
through a stencil to create the top of my dream catcher.

Next it was time to add my coloured paper feathers, some real feathers,
some coloured wire and coloured twine.

To finish off I added some splatters of Road Base, Carribean, Saffron,
Rainforest and Bubblegum Colour Sprays.

Lastly I added my title.

Some close ups-

Head over to the Colour Blast Creative Corner Facebook group to upload your
entry to this challenge. We can't wait to see what you come up with!

"Beautiful" art journal page by Sue Plumb

Hi everyone!
Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project with you. Today I have an art journal page to share using the BRAND NEW Colour Artist Inks. I was so excited to get my hands on these, and I have to say I am in love with them already!
Beside the inks; I also used both black and white heavy gesso; Colour Paste and a Colour Spray.

Here is my complete page...

Below is a step-by-step process of how I created this. Hopefully, you will be inspired to follow along and create your own journal page or artwork.

Start with some collage materials and a matte medium. I used sheet music and a paper napkin. Tear up some pieces and adhere them onto your page.
Choose any materials you wish for this step - you might like to use tissue paper, paper doilies, patterned paper - use your imagination and whatever you have on hand.

Next, take a few Colour Artist Inks (I recommend using similar colours, so when they blend you will not make "mud"); and using a small brush, apply the colours randomly around the page. (I used Lime, Mermaid and Oasis.) If you want them to blend and run into one another, you can spray the page with a small amount of water first so you are working wet on wet. Once you are happy with the colour, dry your page thoroughly before moving onto the next step.

Next, I took a small face stencil (this one is by The Crafters Workshop) and traced through the design using a Sharpie pen. (If you have good drawing skills, you may prefer to draw your own, or alternatively, you could use an image cut from a magazine.) This becomes the focal image of your page.
Once I had the outline in place, I then took a finer tip Sharpie and scribbled over and around the lines to give it a rough, sketched look.

Now my page needed some extra texture and contrasting colour; so I chose Lovely Lilac Colour Paste and used a palette knife to add some highlights through her hair and few extra smears around the page.

I decided my page still needed a bit of extra contrast, so this time I took my Slipper Colour Artist Ink (which I already had in a water pen, but you can just use a brush dipped in the jar). I added a few swipes onto the face and around the page where I felt it needed some added depth.

Next, it was time to break out the black and white heavy gesso. I used the gesso to help tone down the colour in some areas and add darker shading in others, which provides cohesion for the existing layers, and helps bring the focal areas of the page to the front. (In this case the spot where my quote was going to be placed was my primary focal area; and the face was my secondary focal point.)
I started by applying the heavy white gesso with a brush, then moved to using my fingers; before switching to black. (Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty - fingers are great for applying thicker mediums.)

Now it was time to add my quote (this was an Everyday Etc card from the Flutterby Designs 'Flawsome' collection); and I also added some butterfly stickers to tie the theme in. (The butterfly stickers are by From A Mother's Art by Kelly-ann.)

It was then time to add some extra detail, and really help things pop. I used my white Posca pens to add some finer shading detail to the face, along with some highlights on and around the butterflies and quote. I also added some doodled spots.

The final step in my process was to add some splatters. I used Bubblegum Colour Spray (you could use a Colour Artist Ink for this step - I used Colour Spray because it was convenient to simply unscrew the cap and flick it around).

I hope you have enjoyed reading my process, and I do hope this will inspire you to try creating something like this yourself. (If you do, please share it with me - either via the Colour Blast Creative Corner Facebook group or tag me @sue.plumb on Instagram)

Here's a closer look at the finished page...

For anyone in Brisbane, I will be demonstrating the Colour Artist Inks, (and other Colour Blast products) on the Colour Blast stand at this weekend's Logan Craft Alive show.
I will be there on Saturday, so if you are attending, please pop over and say hi and pick up some Colour Artist Inks too.
For details about the show, head to the website HERE

Thanks for stopping by today. I will be back again in a couple of weeks with another project to share. Until then, happy scrapping!
