Hi Colour Blast Lovelies,
Last month, I taught at the Brisbane Scrapbooking expo and this is one version of the Art Journal Class I taught. I say one version as I actually completed a few pages using similar techniques and the students were encouraged to explore the way the mediums reacted with water and each other. That is what an Art Journal is all about really. Exploring and Experimenting.
I called this spread Mr Grey, because 1. I was inspired by the recent 50 Shades of Grey movies and 2. the idea of 50 Shades of Grey. You can create many shades of one colour simply by adding water or just using a monochomatic palette of different products.
Here is my Art Journal Spread
All these colours are greys and blacks. It depends on what they mixed with, how much water was added and how it was dried as to what colour it became.
My art journal is an old book. So, to start I prepped the pages with some Heavy White Gesso. This has a lot of "tooth" and absorbs a fair chunk of the colour and creates another shade of Grey.
As you can see from my picture below. My book has a lot of bleed and some random test stamps but the Heavy White Gesso covers it up easy!
I left the gesso chunky to allow for the colours to pool and blend. This is a tip to add texture without doing anything extra to your page.
Over the top of the gesso I added Colour Spray in Roadbase. I added this before the gesso dried and used a water sprayer to blend it and help it run. I also added some impasto paste stencilled shapes for more texture.
I used Colour Shimmer Dust in Midnight to add more shades of Grey too. The more water you add the lighter the shade of grey.
Finally, I add some drawing and stamping. To create a white-ish space for my stamping to stand out, I used a bit of the Heavy White Gesso. I smeared this on with my finger to create a wash.
There is a process video to go with this Art Journal Page. You can check it out on my YouTube Channel POPLEOPOD.
I hope you enjoyed this Art Journal. Thanks for stopping by today.
Krisy xx
