"Memories: by Melissa Struhs

Welcome back Colour Blast Fans!
I have been so short on time of late and sometimes you just crave a little creative time...

As you may have already heard, Colour Blasts first delivery of White Heavy Gesso arrived late last week and I was lucky enough to grab the very first pot out of the boxes. And decided to test run it on this project too.

I didn't have a standard scrapbooking page idea in mind and thought I would start with a new stamp that I had recently bought.

I began by stamping the image on watercolour paper with a Black Staz on ink.

Here are the crisp Angel

and wing images

ready to be fussy cut, I find it relaxing...call me crazy!

It was time to play with the gesso and of course now everyone is curious about what it is like. Here I have mixed it with Cool Mint  Mica Powder until I was happy with the overall tint of the gesso. It is a little hard to see from the photo but it was applied to a canvas paper and left to dry naturally.

For me, I love to use it through stencils and you can see how clear the stencilled image turned out, I think most people want the medium to have some body, to hold some height and still have the raised texture that can usually be achieved with a mixed media product. My biggest hint is to not overload your palette knife and smooth over the stencil as little as possible, this prevents the bleeding that we all try to avoid.

On a piece of white cardstock, Snow White Colour Paste was applied over a different stencil

to create a tone on tone effect.

The canvas paper was trimmed and attached to the middle of the stencilled cardstock. A distressed piece of muslin was attached through the centre of the sheet music image with some fabric glue.

I wanted to continue to build some more layers, so a die cut was inked with white

and embossed with Snow White  Colour Embossing Powder.

It almost has a cloud like look to it when it was attached over the stencilled images.

The paper pieced Angel was raised on foam dots to create an ethereal look to her.

And last but not least, a laser cut chipboard words was

embossed with Envy and Snow White Colour Embossing Powder.

Here's a final close up of all of the elements completed. Right now there is no real plan for what this small project will become...perhaps a page in my 2017 planner or the start of a title page for a new album.

If you are a Queensland local, Colour Blast are at the Logan Craft Alive show starting today until Sunday 13th of November. We would love it if you could stop by and say hello and watch some of the fabulous demonstrations by our Design Team girls.

Happy Crafting!
Till next time,
Mel.
