"Beautiful" by Melissa Struhs

Morning Colour Blast Fans. Sometimes a project really tugs at your heartstrings and deserves something really special. Our family recently lost a beloved pet and this layout is the start of a small series I want to create for my son.

I wanted it to be soft and have a subtle texture. This idea led me to using the Colour Blast embossing powders quite heavily.

It seems that Colour Blast team are very fond of the double coat technique, I actually find that the second layer almost has a self levelling quality. I have used a light platinum coloured ink on the word of the chipboard frame and used "Singin' the Blues" embossing powder to get a very thick coverage.

And then using the same ink and embossing powder along the edges of patterned papers, photo mats and journaling boxes.

How great is the distressed / embossed edge? The second layer of this embossing powder really has a much bolder and intense colouring.

To a separate photo mat I repeated the embossed edge but this time in "Steel" and then spritzed the cardstock with the matching  Colour Shimmer Spray.

To finish off the chipboard frame, the "Steel" Colour Shimmer Spray has been applied to the unfinished edge. This is really subtle and actually what I had in mind to suit the grey tones of the patterned papers.

A chunky metal corner had some Embossing Powder applied to it as well. I used the light platinum ink to give the powder something to cling to until it was heat set.

As the layers started to come together, there was still some open space that needed more interest. So, out came the stencils and the matching Colour Blast pastes.

Some "Singin' the Blues" for added stripes....

and "Steel" mixed with a little gesso to create a more pastel look for unstructured splats and hearts.

I love popping in on a Friday to leave you another project to kickstart your weekend creativity.
